LUNCH REPORT for Friday, July 23, 2010
Hey, kids! Welcome to my final lunch report! I've had a great time doing this, and I want to thank all of you for participating. Thank you!
Lunch today is going to be Peruvian fare from Choza Mama, a joint near my work in Burbank. I'll probably have the rotisserie chicken, but I may opt for the pollo saltado, which is essentially a chicken stir-fry but with a Peruvian twist --- French fries. Yep, they stir-fry French fries in there right along with the chicken, onions, tomatoes and whatever else they throw in. With rice and Peruvian beans it makes quite the meal. Decidedly not low carb.
------
Bill's ever soulful comments from yesterday's LR have inspired me to share a little about some of the things I really care about in this life. I'm getting married next May to this hot goddess (wonderful woman) that I've been with (more or less) for nine and a half years. We broke up a few years ago, and she moved to New York with our dog --- a very tough time for me. In the meantime, we stayed in contact with each other --- I sobered up --- and we decided to give it another go. And voila, we're getting married and the whole shebang!
Then I've got these guys to help me to remember the important stuff, like food and walks:
The Basset Hound in the middle is actually not ours. But the other two are: Vincent is the Dachshund in the foreground, and Thunderchicken is the mutt in the back.
Do you have any pets? Let's see some pics, people!
------
G&L Content: Leo Fender era guitars. How many of you have experience with the older G&Ls? I know that some people think they're fugly, but I think many of them are really cool looking. A little different. I sometimes go over to the Buffalo Bros. website 'cause I know that Tim always has some oldies in stock. I just check 'em out and think to myself that I've gotta get down to San Diego and at the very least play some of these old beauties. I seriously considered buying a Skyhawk (with sickle headstock) from an eBay seller a year or so ago, but the guy proved to be a lunatic when it came to communication, so I passed up on it. In general though, I'm very curious about these guitars.
------
I've got a rehearsal today, which I'm excited about. It's always good to play LOUD! Again, thanks, everyone for participating this week! It's been a blast!!!

My sentiments exactly...

Sounds like everything is on track with you so congrats.
Doggies - Can never recall a time when there were not a few around.
Here is Penny - our latest pound puppy. How could ya not love a face like that?
Here is the madman - Ike our Border Collie (with my daughter)
As I have said before my favorite G&L remains the 1st body style Interceptor. When I first encountered it I thought it was beat with an ugly stick. But after awhile I started to view it as pretty.
Good Week Hoss, Thanks for all the good chat.

Does anyone know what kind of guitar Otis Rush is playing in that video? The squared off headstock has me baffled.

Re: LUNCH REPORT for Friday, July 23, 2010
To me it looks like an Epiphone Riviera, though the headstock is baffling. I suspect that the name may have been taped over with black tape, giving the square appearance, but there appears to be an Epi "E" on the truss rod cover and on the pickguard. And there is a frequency compensator tailpiece and mini-buckers too, so I'm voting early- 60's Riviera.
Article in the latest Vintage Guitar Magazine about Drake Levin's Epis. Drake was the original guitarist with Paul Revere And The Raiders, and favored Rivieras and Sheratons. He was a terrific player, too--go back and listen to some of the old hits.
These Epis are beautiful guitars and though probably not as popular as the Gibsons of the day (though they were made side-by-side in the Gibson factory, go figure); they do have a cult following. Casinos are popular do to the Beatles, but the Rivieras and Sheratons are a definite step up in elegance. I've lusted for a vintage Sheraton nearly all my life, but they are rare.

Great job on the LR this week. You made me proud. Glad to hear things are going well for you.
We haven't had a pet for a couple of years since out little kitty Magic died. Really miss her, even her bad attitude. We're talking about getting another kitty.
I had bought my first Music Man Sabre II about '78-79, right when they first came out. I think I was probably one of the first guys in Seattle to own one. The the F-100 came out, and frankly I wasn't impressed. I've always thought the Sabre was a better guitar. But I do like some of the other Leo-era guitars, like the Interceptors and Cavaliers, but I don't own any.

I have a dog, corgi shown here , as far as animals go this one is too big for his britches as far as intellect goes. He has been whining all day in the bedroom where he saw a box he assumes has new toys for him, we moved it to the closet (which he was not privy to) and now he whines at it. He has never seen what is in the box, but thinks it is his... It is.
I am not one for odd shaped guitars, but who knows. Depends how comfy they are, that is the be all and end all in my choices.

At first glance I thought it was an Epi also, but the headstock looks nothing like any Epi I've seen--not just the square top either, but the whole general shape. For a brief moment I thought I got a glimpse of the Epi logo on the pickguard but couldn't be sure.To me it looks like an Epiphone Riviera, though the headstock is baffling. Marriage is a matter of timing, when the time is right you do it. This week marked the 21st anniversary for my wife and me. Like all marriages it has its ups and downs but we're still together.
We also have a dachshund. Molly is a half mini weighing about 20 pounds. She acts like she's 120 lbs until she gets close to another dog, then she realizes the other animal is about 5 times her size. Still that does not deter her from protecting us and the house every time she sees strangers or dogs walking by.
My only experiences with Leo-era guitars are my SC-3 which I picked up late last year. After I set it up it plays so well and sounds so good that it is now one of my favorite guitars. The only issue with it is that the single coils can be a bit noisy depending on the playing environment. The other instrument is an F-100 that belongs to a friend of mine. It is his treasure so I didn't abuse it too much when I actually got to play it.

I really like corgis. They're really fast too, which you wouldn't necessarily think by their shape. The box is his.sirmyghin wrote:I have a dog, corgi shown here , as far as animals go this one is too big for his britches as far as intellect goes. Thunderchicken came from the pound, and he is simply a terrific dog. Just great all around. And I love Border Collies, but you're right, they're a lot to handle. Cute kid too!zombywoof wrote:Here is Penny - our latest pound puppy. How could ya not love a face like that?

I have four cats and a horse. My newest cat is named Squirty. I got her last summer at work. A customer brought his '99 Suburban in for a coolant leak. When I opened the hood to look for the leak, there she was in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. She was a tiny kitten and very scared. The owner of the Suburban said she wasn't his and he didn't want her. She now lives in my barn with the horse.El Fug wrote:

Meet "Snowball." Dumb name, yeah, but it was all he had when we took him (as a foster - ten years ago!) from a nice lady who rescues American Eskimo Dogs. This one came from the roughest part of DC - Southeast - and has been such a good friend from day one:
I like me some older G&Ls.
I need to take a pic of my 1st style SB-2......
Fantastic week, El Fug, and a hearty congratulations on getting your house in order and your girl to the alter. Best to both of you! - ed

Yeah, mine is under weight, and eats so much food it is insane, he actually can't eat enough to gain weight. We run him daily (sometimes multiple times) and have one of those ball throwing sticks and a big field. A real great pooch, just has some fear issues we are working to correct (mostly through leadership, he isn't leading he has no reason to be afraid, as he doesn't call the shots.).El Fug wrote:I really like corgis. Few times we almost got a mini dachs, and cannot beat mutt vitality, thunderchicken though, excellent name.
Checked out your band, little too pop for my tastes, but it all seems very tight and well organized. You are unfortunately dealing with a pop detesting, progressive rock leaning, technical player idolizing metalhead. (who also listens to a lot of stuff around the board, none of which is pop however.)

Thank you though for listening and for all your responses during the week. I do appreciate it!
