Belated NBD!
My wife and I recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and to mark the occasion she green-lighted the purchase of an L2000 that I've been admiring since it was posted on G&L's Facebook page back in May:
Shortly after that photo was posted, the bass was sent to Bass North West in Seattle. It was the first time I'd visited the shop, so I made a pass through, was asked if I needed assistance, played the bass and before I knew it was driving home with my new G&L. A great day indeed
This one has a #8 neck and the K-wiring. It's neck even has a good bit of flame in it which is a nice touch I've played it at church during two separate services; once through an Ampeg combo, and this past weekend straight into the PA. It sounded great through the PA, but even better through the amp.
With the K wiring (adding the option for single coils) it has got to be one of the most sonically flexible basses on the market.
The blue burst finish is much nicer in person, and I love the fact that the dark edges are not black-- but more of a deep purple. It's beautiful to look at, fun to play, sounds great, and at 8.8 lbs is easy to play during those long sets... what more could a guy want?

Awesome, beautiful color, and the K-switch is the biz.
I'm digging my M series, but the L2K's are a benchmark in Bass Guitar.
Leo Fender/ G&L what a win combination, huh?
Enjoy.

It really is-- I don't know why G&L doesn't just go ahead and add the "K" to all the L-series basses. The last two weekends I've had it in the split mode with both pickups selected in passive mode and the volume rolled off a few notches-- a very sweet soundLarryNJ wrote:Awesome, beautiful color, and the K-switch is the biz.

The Leo designs have always been my favorite, and with the addition of this L2000 I think I've got all the foundational tones covered:
- G&L LB-100 (i.e. P-bass)
- G&L JB (the traditional model)
- EBMM Stingray
- G&L L2000
Anything else I think is just icing on the cake-- very tasty icing in many cases, but for now I'm as happy as can be. I do have plans for adding to my collection several years from now... an M2000 in blue metal flake with an ebony board... a honey burst MJ4 with a maple board and quartersawn neck... and I kind of dig the EBMM Bongo ( ) Someday...

Ice it with an El Toro or Interceptor Bass. They cover another tone entirely.Monahan wrote:

I've read mention of these models, but never pursued either of them.
After looking at them online, I think I'll be searching out an El Toro... the Intercepter's aesthetics are a little too unique for my taste
Thanks for the suggestion!

Just for you low-enders on this thread, there are couple of nice early SB-2 and Lynx basses on daBay too:
SB-2:

Lynx:

Anytime! I understand what you mean about unique, but somehow that pointy body is amazingly comfortable. I would give it a slight edge over the El Toro in that regard.Monahan wrote:After looking at them online, I think I'll be searching out an El Toro... the Intercepter's aesthetics are a little too unique for my taste

I've noticed the prices creeping upward on the early SB models. I think that Lynx could be a great deal for a fretted player who is willing to pay for a good re-fret. It should have the exact same tone as the early SB-2, but the contours added to the SB body make for a very comfortable instrument.yowhatsshakin wrote:Just for you low-enders on this thread, there are couple of nice early SB-2 and Lynx basses on daBay too:
