The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

what a difference a setup makes

Post by n0nspaz »

a quick study of the G&L Legacy, built May 2014, that i discuss in my introduction here http://guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewtopic ... 47&t=11016

rosewood FB, stock electronics, both tone pots at 5

when i brought my new Legacy back to the dealer he concurred that it had not been properly set up at the factory. he said he even had to file the nut slots. so far the action and the intonation are excellent. he also locked down the bridge to the body (ie only downward dives are possible)

1. factory new with 10's:

2. after a little pickup height & saddle adjustment by me (strings:GHS boomer 10.5's):

3. after the proper setup mentioned above (ernie ball 11's)

also, if interested: 4. after realizing the -18dB pad was engaged on my DI, removing the pad (increasing the DI gain) & lowering audio interface input trim -15dB

[ie in #3, the audio interface is acting as 'preamp' and in #4 it's the DI]

recording chain: Radial J48 active DI - Steinberg/Yamaha MR816x - lightpipe to RME9652 - Cubase6 - Amplitube (one of the fender blackface presets)

additional reference- my 2 cheap frankenstrats with SAME electronics (SeyDunc SSL-1's, custom wiring): lower the volume to about 60% for these 2:
#1 lightweight yardsale special
#2 heavier body craigslist special

cheers
