ASAT Z-3 pickup swap question...

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

ASAT Z-3 pickup swap question...

Post by Lacking Talent »

So, how big a job is it, and what exactly'd need doin', to swap a pair -- or perhaps even a trio -- of large MFD pickups into the swimming pool route found under the pickguard of an ASAT Z-3? I know that large MFDs are mounted directly to the body of the ASAT models in which they appear as stock items, so I'm guessing this idea isn't as simply executed as I'd like it to be.

Thanks in advance; any thoughts and/or guidance much appreciated!

i don't know if the route is wide enough, but if it is, with the right pg it should be easy.

+1

Beyond that, the funny thing is that no swimming pool rout is used when it comes to the ASAT Special or 3 wide MFD pup models, i.e. S-3 and Trinity.

Here a pic of my S-3:

You would have a hard time getting the bridge pickup placed at Leo's intended spot.

Hope this helps,

That's an interesting point, Jos, thanks; had not occurred to me, but I see what you mean when I look at the pic you shared and then compare the relative position of a Z-coil bridge pickup that's seated in a mounted Z-3 pickguard.
