I thought I'd share some pictures of my two G&Ls with you guys. I've lurked on the forum over the past couple of months and have really found out some useful and entertaining information, while also lusting after your G&Ls. In comparison, my two are fairly modest but I'm very pleased with them as I know you guys are with yours.
First of all, a little bit of introduction. I've been playing for for around 11 years and have always like Leo Fender's designs. In Ireland guitars tend to be a lot more expensive than they would be in North America due to importation costs, more middle men in distribution, customs duty and the like. A couple of years ago I went over to New York to visit a friend and decided that while I was there I would buy myself a guitar.
While I was in Manny's and the shops around it I tried out a lot of different guitars. I'd been posting on a few different guitar related fora and had heard of G&L but never actually seen one as they're relatively rare in Ireland and was hoping to try one. In As luck would have it there was a OLP Legacy on the wall by the door and I was very impressed when I tried it. Unfortunately, it was a little bit over my budget and I eventually settled on a Fender Robert Cray Signature Strat, which had also impressed me.
A couple of years later I sold the RC Strat and finally decided to take a risk and order myself a new G&L Legacy from the States. After a lot time deliberating I decided to take a risk and buy one that was in stock on an ebay store, at a fantastic sale price. A couple of weeks later it arrived and even after paying tax on it it worked out quite a bit cheaper than an American Series Strat would have cost me in Ireland or even one of the larger superstores on the continent.
Even ordering an unseen, unplayed guitar I was relatively confident that I'd like what they sent me. What I got was beyond my expectations. It's a relatively modest Legacy with a standard C neck and 12" radius in Himalayan Blue. It's very resonant, under 8lbs and has the first maple fretboard that I've ever felt totally comfortable with. The 12" radius is probably my favourite feature. I never use the trem as the little screw that presses against the nylon insert disappeared in transit and I have yet to work out how to get another of that type. I'm not much of a trem user anyway. The case is also great - it smells of sweets.
It has a little birthmark.
I hope the pics are ok - sizing them is a little time consuming. It's a bit late so I'll post pics of my second G&L tomorrow. That way we'll all have something to look forward to. You can catch a sneak peek in my avatar.

Re: My two G&Ls - 2011 Legacy and 2011 ASAT Special
The second is an ASAT Special Deluxe 'No Top' which I ordered from PGS. I had originally planned on buying a Bluesboy in Fullerton Red with relatively normal features but I was really curious about the large MFDs and the mahogany body so I decided to buy this one instead. Some day I may go back and get myself that Bluesboy - I absolutely love all things Fiesta/Fullerton red - but I'm very happy with this ASAT so the need isn't really pressing.
Most people seemed pretty positive about these on different fora so, again, buying without playing didn't really worry me that much. I had a feeling that the pickups and the body would work. Some people see this as a cheaper version of the Special Deluxe but I prefer to think of it as a mahogan-bodied ASAT Special. The quality is just the same.
When I first got it I found myself feeling a little ambivalent towards the guitar. I wasn't really sure what I could do or where it really fit into my collection. After playing it more and more I found that I can really get those normal T-style tones but without ever becoming overly twangy or harsh. It feels fantastic and after oiling up the fretboard the other day I like it even more. I find that it's a great guitar for using with a fuzz pedal - my favourite is my Pharoah Fuzz. The MFDs are quiet, powerful and very articulate.
It's a great guitar.
The fretboard was pretty dry in those pictures. It's much darker now.
I also have a Robby Krieger SG that isn't pictured there.

Welcome to the forum!
Love the ASAT Special Deluxe "plain top." The painted headstock shows off the pickups. Thanks for showing.
I also have an ASAT Special: http://www.sixstring-guitar.com/Gallery4.html - It is currently my favorite G&L guitar.

Thanks for the welcome. And for the link to the screws. Who'd have thought it was that easy? I might as well order some as it is nice to have the option.blargfromouterspace wrote:Thats a gorgeous Legacy. By the way, I love your SC ASAT. Great combination of colours and I bet it sounds fantastic.
The Annie is the undisputed queen of my collection. I managed to get it just when the market was right and will never sell it. I remember seeing them for the first time in a guitar book when I was 15 and thinking that I had to have one some day. I was lucky enough to do that a couple of years ago.darwinohm wrote:The Gretsch Aniv. model really catches my eye!-- Darwin
I love the Filtertrons, especially when overdriven. I'm also one of the few that likes the tone switch - I use it much more than regular tone controls, perhaps because it's more limited. Not necessarily the most practical guitar I have but definitely the one I'm fondest of.
