Spec Sheet from Tim at BB from 2003?

Post by building96 »

I’m now the proud owner a G&L 2003 Tobacco Sunburst S-500 Mahogany Special Build serial number CLF30614 with a Rosewood finger board and a DF Vibrato System. I bought it second hand (maybe third). I'm trying to get the information off of the spec sheet for the guitar, for example date of build, neck radius and such. I tried contacting Buffalo Bros, they referred my back here and told me to ask for Tim.I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. Drew

Are you sure it is not a 2004? In this Production List of G&L Instruments (USA) (and scrolling down a bit), you'll find a series of mahogany bodies guitars that were all produced in small quantities; less than 25 in your case. These were Special Build instruments but without the then customary CCD logo on the headstock or Silver Certificate of Authenticity. I believe all hogs built in 2004 had ebony boards (which is true for both the ASAT Super and the ASAT HB I have) but for instance the 2005 hog ASAT Classic Bluesboys have rosewood boards. A picture would be helpful here. Otherwise it will have the standard S-500 accoutrements, but with pre-2006 imperial sized arm, bolts, nuts, and what not. And more importantly: set-up. The usage of PLEK technology would have to wait another 2 years.

Hope this helps,

- Jos

The reason I guessed 2004 is because that's what came up when I punched the serial number into the G&L registry. I did notice the conflicting data with the other Mahogany Special builds -all from 2004, but the registry indicates Rosewood boards. I have the certificate of authenticity, and I don't think it's silver; the seal is blue. Picture is posted at: http://s1171.photobucket.com/albums/r55 ... g60_58.jpg.

That is the Phyllis Fender 'signed' certificate with the S/N that had been part of every G&L since about '92-'93.

According to the Registry entry comments in the Other Features on this guitar:
1 of 2 on special order by Buffalo Bros before 2004 LE models.
Perhaps Tim Page will see this post and provide some history regarding these two special ordered guitars.
AFAIK, the only difference between the S-500 Mahogany Special Build and
the standard production S-500 models is the Mahogany body finished in Tobacco Sunburst.

Yes, the mention of "1 of 2 on special order by Buffalo Bros before 2004 LE models" as a feature of this serial number interested me. Prior to my claiming it, this comment was already posted. I love the guitar. Thanks for the support G&L.com.

The fret board is close to a 9.5".

Tim, in regards to the hardtail variety, was it signed by Mr. Fullerton on the back of the headstock?
