Lunch Report - Tuesday Dec 6 2011

Post by Michael-GnL-Michael »

Lunch: Oatmeal with fresh blueberries and banana, a couple slices of black forest ham and authentic tortilla chips from locals.

Yesterday I got the LR question completely wrong apparently even though I pointed out that it was not exactly what CGT had sparked in the opening, seems how CGT ignored my response out of everyone's in the thread. ....but what the heck it enticed me to be the open mic LR host today. I promise I won't be shunning CGT though. :happy0007:

G&L: So, what is your idea of the ultimate G&L guitar?

Mine is a Legacy body with an ASAT neck, Ash/Maple & Maple fret wood. Tone is the neck positions of both as well as the neck-bridge ASAT and neck-middle Legacy, middle-bridge Legacy and not just the switching/wiring but the true tone.......not saying this is possible just describing my ultimate guitar. Color, too many too pin down but something with a cream pickguard.

Non G&L: if you could eliminate a necessary item in your gear what would it be?

I'd like to eliminate all cables.

Hi Michael

Lunch today - well, in the UK bacon is compulsory on or in all foods - so it ws a chicken and bacon salad...

Your suggestion of removing cables made me think of the wireless guitar in the fillm "Spinal Tap" and brought a smile to my face (remember - when Nigel picked up local radio waves over his amp.....hilarious....).

Also made me think (more generally) of embarasing gig moments some of my friends have had which include (i) opening up the guitar case at the gig only to realise there were no strings on the guitar and then he was reminded he took them off earlier in the week (ii) unpacking all the gear at a location - only to find it was the wrong location (iii) tripping the power at the venue (iv) starting a fire (v) a streaker running through the pub during a gig....and so on :happy0007:

Got any embarassing Gig stories? I dont perform myself (too much of a novice and not enough talent) - but i enjoy listening to the stories you real players have to tell.

The PA. The drummer carts it around but we all use it so we all help set it up and tear it down. In an ideal world all places with live music would have to have a GOOD in-house PA!

my ideal g&l would be an asat special deluxe, but with 3 big mfd's ( there may be a model like that, don't know), and belly cut and forearm cut, and a contoured heel, dfs trem and s-500 switching. maple neck, 12 inch radius, maple fretboard, jescar evo57110 frets, swamp ash body, natrural finish. no pg of course.

Lunch: sub

My ultimate G&L? Since I only play 1 type, that would be a red S500.

Why bother with the oatmeal/fruit/(questionable) chips thing, just eat PIG!! You'll be able to save money for your next G&L!

The ASAT Will Ray is pretty darn close for me. For special build would "borrow" zapcosongs BluesBoy pictured a few posts above to design from, then let the imagination go with mods.

Tuners, granted the TU-3 works but an auto tuning guitar would be sweet. Anybody tried an EverTune bridge and how much set-up was required?

I like my ASAT Dlx SH pretty well. I think the only other G&L I would want would be the rest of them!!

If I could find a wireless unit that really sounded like a good cable, that would be nice.

the line 6 g 30 sounds as good as cable. can even adjust how long a cable you want it to sound like.

First of all, Michael: Mea culpa. Mea culpa! Maxima mea culpa. I didn't snub you on purpose, there were so many responses that I lost yours scrolling back and for to my response. To be fair, you pulled a total Koyabashi Maru on me and although your solution was valid going the route of a notional guitar is a bit of a cheat. After all, the intent of the question was more to get you to think about what you would do as a player if you had to choose but one of your instruments.

Also, I thought I posted this yesterday to your lunch report but must have pressed the wrong button.

My ultimate G&L would be a maple board/alder Legacy with locking tuners, dual fulcrum and triple humbuckers wired for coil tap and phase, etc. à la Jimmy Page.

If I could eliminate a piece of necessary gear, and I have, it would be the amp (for the sake of my ears). I find software sims do a very good job at creating the clear tones that are part of my tonal palette and a good set of in-ear monitors give me the tone and volume I require without having to move massive amounts of air.

No worries I accept your explanation too. I was joking around with the idea of getting snubbed.

Without an avatar the space taken by a shorter post does get lost in a thread. I have sometimes used black dots to add bulk to the post space. I like seeing member guitars in their avatars. I am going to get new pickguards for my guitars. Otherwise I would have taken pictures and made an avatar by now.

I responded to your LR with an ultimate guitar instead because I do not have a collection of guitars to whittle down to one. I only have two. I like one better but that doesn't count as whittling down.

So Jimmy Page has tapped humbuckers on his Les Paul? I admire his body of work but I have not dug into his gear.

I use software for simulated amplification also. My item to eliminate was cables but I also had headphone wire in mind and anything else that keeps me immobile and can be tripped over or tangled up.

When you said "in-ear monitor" are you describing the things used by pros on stage or something more like earbuds? I would like to find a better solution than the Sennheiser HD580s I use. They are comfortable for headphones but they get uncomfortable eventually. I'd like to have an alternative.
