What would you like to see as the next G&L reissue/revisit?
Since BBE Sound acquired G&L, they have reissued/revisited these Leo-era G&L 6 string guitars:
- Invader (1997)
- GbL_LE (1999 like ASAT IIIl)
- Custom Creations Rampage (2000), Jerry Cantrell Signature Rampage(2010), Jerry Cantrell "Blue Dress" Signature Rampage (2010/11)
- F-100 Return Edition (2007), F-100 (2009 standard production)
- Comanche Studio IV (2007)
- SC-2 (2008)
- C.L.F. Centennial ASAT (2009 - like 1986-1991 ASAT)
- ASAT S-3 Special Build [2011]
- Superhawk - possible Jerry Cantrell Signature [mentioned in 2011 by Jerry Cantrell in G&L YouTube video]
What would you like to see them reissue/revisit next?
Note: this poll is just for 6 string guitars only. Perhaps Ken Baker could to do a similar poll over on the bassesbyleo.com forum for the lowenders
Disclaimer: this poll is just being conducted by Admin Craig and IS NOT an official poll by G&L/BBE Sound.

Check the G&L Registry Rarebird page for some images and info. Check the Album: Instruments in the Gallery for other images except the the baritone prototype.SouthpawGuy wrote:I'm intrigued by the possibility of a reissue

Here's a picture of the Leo's baritone prototype, which Brock recently posted in one of his Lunch Reports:
Hope this helps.

Definitely baritone. Would be the only one that is entirely 'new', i.e. a model that has never been officially released.

Why does the poll not match the possibilities in your question?

Re: What would you like to see as the next G&L reissue/revisit?
I voted for the baritone.
Actually, if G&L is staying roughly in the brand identity build up on Leo's heritage, the line seems quite complete, above all when G&L is open to make special custom orders as the last batch of ASAT S3 (btw am I alone expecting more pictures of these? ). I see nowadays models and reissues as subtle tweaks on an ongoing improvement process. The previous models seem to have been discarded in the light of these refinements. What more can they do then? Offer again old/new electronics (active or passive)? That can be of course temporarily appealing but a baritone would be more of a real addition to the stable.

Huh ... the poll items are the one's which have yet to be reissued or revisited by BBE/G&L. Are there others that I missed?meowmix wrote:Why does the poll not match the possibilities in your question?

I did list a couple of places to view images of the originals in a followup post above. Another place to view images and get info is Greg Gagliano's G&L webpages.

Kind of a reissue: what about a production version of the G&L 25th Anniversary?

Whatever reissue is next, I'd kinda like to see one of the vintage 80's headstocks on it.

Baritone hands down, I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Although the G-200 with the vintage 80's headstock would be sick as well.

Re: What would you like to see as the next G&L reissue/revisit?
I am so excited about the possibility of the Superhawk reissue. I mentioned a while back I was wanting to try to special order a Superhawk since it's the same body as the Rampage. Just need a neck humbucker, a toggle switch and a tone control. So hopefully this will see the light of day!
I like the classic look of the Leo era, but I also like the current line of BBE era guitars. IMO they have continued to improve and haven't forgotten where they came from. So I think it's cool when they bring back these gems from their history.
Just my opinion,
Dave

G200 - short scale length? No good.
http://www.ggjaguar.com/leovles.htm
http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... =36&t=2000
"The neck's scale length is a Gibsonesque 24 3/4 inch and the G-200 is the only G&L produced to date with a non-25.5 inch scale length. "
Interceptor/X-wing - Shape doesn't impress me.

Skyhawk/S-500 - S-500 type.
http://www.ggjaguar.com/skyhawk.htm
Nighthawk - S-500 type
http://www.ggjaguar.com/nitehawk.htm
HG-1/HG-2 - would rather get a SC-2

Cavalier - I never liked the mustang

Re: What would you like to see as the next G&L reissue/revisit?
Chances of that happening are slim to none. It is the essential difference between a 'Limited Edition', of which no more instruments are built beyond those of the initial (and only) run, and 'Special Built' instruments of which later runs may occur. And the latter has happened several times, the latest example being the ASAT Classic "S" which has become a production model for all practical purposes. Although it is still not listed as such on the G&L web site.Xochitl wrote:Kind of a reissue: what about a production version of the G&L 25th Anniversary?
For completeness, there is one exception to what is stated above. In 2000, G&L's Custom Creation Department issued a Limited Edition of the Rampage with a production run of 70. This model came in a gig bag back in the day. We now all know it has become a production model, not only in a US built version but also a part of the Tribute line. Guess that's why I use the word 'slim' And the Rampage does have its truly limited run now in the form of the 'Blue Dress' model.

Re: What would you like to see as the next G&L reissue/revisit?
Well Craig, I'm totally shocked that you didn't put up my idea of a Comanche 12-string, but I realized you're looking for a "reissue".
So, for that reason, I'm not voting in your poll!! So there!
Okay, seriously...for a re-issue, I could see going with an original Comanche body--the ones with the long horns. Sexy.
The Cavalier is one guitar I would like to have. I love this body shape from the Sabre (It is NOT a Mustang, people!!!!), but Cavalier's have a reputation for a really bright piercing tone. So you might have to change the pickup design for a more modern voicing. And then it's not a re-issue, is it? I see that the prototype Bari has this same body--looks like a Sabre, except for the guard and the headstock tit. The HG-2 holds some appeal, again due to the body shape--a three pickup version would be really cool in my opinion.
I think from a marketing standpoint, the best bet might be an Interceptor x-body. And expecially if it came as a TRIBUTE series guitar. Why not capture some of the pointy guitar market with G&L quality. Let's get these kids out of their Jacksons, Schecters, Deans, and B.C. Rich guitars and into a G&L. Now, three pickups or two?
I know a lot of people like the G-200. Personally, I think it's one of the ugliest guitars I've ever seen. The Nighthawk/Skyhawk/S-500 also hold little appeal for me, though the hard-rock/metal crowd might like them.
And actually, I think it would be really cool if G&L reissued the Sabre, complete with low-impedance pickups and a preamp. I might revoice the preamp to add a mid-boost, along with the bright switch. My three-pickup Sabre II is incredibly versatile--and I can drive 100 feet of cable and 36 pedals with ZERO signal loss. Surely those boys at BBE could contribute something spectacular for this. I'd add a DF-Vibrato, just to truly make it a "hybrid from hell." There seems to be a lot of interest in the Sabre lately, and vintage pieces seem to be pickup in value. A more modern take on the Sabre would be the kind of innovation and refinement that Leo would approve of, and I think G&L would sell a bunch of them.
My one question would be: Why are you interested in re-issuing guitars that weren't successful in the market the first time around???
But I gotta tell ya Craig; make me a G&L Comanche XII like I've spec'ed out--and you can put me down for TWO.
Bill

I would love to see a new ASAT Classic III.
I guess I'll just get a Classic S or else mod
a classic with a third pickup.

A 7 seven ASAT classic would be really cool.
The 7th string could give you the low notes
without lengthening the scale! With the ASAT
twang those low notes would be awesome.

Re: What would you like to see as the next G&L reissue/revisit?
I am going to be complicated here and say if you want a low B, you better lengthen the scale. If you want a good, similar sounding low B, in a normal string size a 25.5 doesn't cut it. It needs to be a fair deal larger, and flirts with inharmonicity. I have had to play the string size scale length game getting a 34" 5 string bass to have a low B, I don't think I will play it again with a guitar. Most guys I know use a .06 for their low B, and that is playing dinky strings like 9s, it has to feel close to the rest as one slack string makes it feel poor.jwebsmall wrote:A 7 seven ASAT classic would be really cool.
