Belated NGD! on my Birthday!

Post by Ahryn »

Well I must admit that I am posting this two days late, my ASAT has arrived! and on my birthday no less!

Yup a good time for it, and after spending the lass 24 hours with it I've got to say... it is everything I have hoped it to be!

The neck feels like home, the finish like glass (and by now fingerprint coated) the tuners precision incarnate and the pickups? exactly the way they would sound in my head.

this goes out to all the lurkers out there on the fence, don't think twice it is so worth it.

and now without further ado, the blow by blow and guitar porn....

Image
The package as it has arrived...
Image
Wots all this then? (images of shifted and cracked necks come to mind.)
Image
one layer of shock obsorbing packaging material later... ("a box whithin a box? boxception!" or "I heard you liked unboxing so I put a box in your box so you could unbox while you unbox.")
Image
At last! the legendary G&G case, a veritable tank.
Image
Not only did my G&L come in but looks like the fine folks at PGS threw in some birthday gifts as well, special thanks to Chris Larson for being so awesome!
Image
I love the grain! wavy and porous looking, the pics don't do it justice. I could get lost in this finish.
Image
A close up of the black painted headstock, when I was researching G&Ls one thing I wished was to see a good close up of the painted headstocks.
Image
Image
Two shots of my CV50 and my new ASAT, got a Tascam TC-1S there, solar powered and charges from unnatural lighting like florescents... Infinite POWER!
Image
another shot for the researchers/lurkers. the height of the strings from the PuPs in relation to everything as well as what the knobs look like.
Image
then neck is insanely figured! Knotty Knotty neck and the satin finish feels so organic. also having seen the serial number plate in person. it is so small and in such an out of place area I don't see any problem with it.
Image
the hang tags, any takers on translating?

Lovely, and almost identical to another posted this week!

Happy birthday and, more importantly, happy NGD

Hey Ahryn,

Happy birthday from me as well, i think everyone here needs a birthday present like that at least once in their life! Another fine, fine example of G&L's craftsmanship. As for the hang tag, check out my NGD post from last week (a few below this post) Craig had a really cool breakdown of all the abbreviations on the hang tag that came with my Special Deluxe.

Enjoy the guitar, she's a beauty

Happy Birthday!!!

That guitar looks alot like mine! ;)

I hear you about getting off the fence and going for it. I was having the worst time deciding on ASAT model and color... Then I was on the PGS website and saw it there. I couldn't resist. :happy0007:

Rip it up bro!

Yay! Happy Birthday! Happy NGD too. Look at all those lovely 'extras' which those nice folks at G&L have included in the package. Nice touch. Hmm, I'll have to synchronise my next G&L purchase with my birthday too. I wonder what they'd include for a 60th birthday purchase? It's some time off yet, but I'm aiming for a Bluesboy semi-hollow with F-hole. A special 'retirement' gift to myself. I think I could justify Guitar #4 on that basis.

Enjoy settling in with your new 'baby'. Lucky man! Bill

Based on gitman001's post about Craig's interpretation of the hang tag of his guitar, my guess for your's are (I may be totally off for any or all the fields):

- BlK PH = Black painted headstock
- GNut = graphite nut
- LT = ?
- LN1 = Number 1 neck (12" radius)
- RW = Rosewood fingerboard

Not written on the hang tag, but "AG," Absolutely Gorgeous!

LT = light tint? This from G&L site: "More of a subtle hue than Vintage Gloss, adds character and warmth to the look. Versatile."
or locking tuners?

ding ding ding, Bill is right LT for Locking tuners, glad to see that hang tag interpreted Kit right on every point :). I actually didn't get a chance to read Craigs post :? so I am glad for your help guys, also I just shined her up a few minutes ago and the grain is just fabulous! its a two piece body so it gets that nice bookmatched look to it. only thing is after shining it I now see all the evidence of my recent frequent strummings... :whome:

Ahryn, have you looked at the Custom Specifications sheet inside the black G&L envelope? It has all the details.

Hope this helps.

Very nice.

So if you order black pickups, they will give you black knobs?

Thanks JasonM I know the feeling, I guess that makes us ASAT brothers :alright:

Good to see your back Craig, yeah I looked in the black envelope and well I had the camera out and I had the hang tag right there so I figured why not and threw it up here.

Seems like it has really been covered before but I had not seen that before I posted :whome: so I guess there is plenty of material for the FAQ.

Meowmix, I am not sure if they automatically come with the black knobs, I have seen plenty of examples without.

I think it is since it was ordered through PGS as a No-Top and they all seem to have black knobs, although if you really want them I am sure you could talk to your dealer.

I must also admit that just playing my G&L is improving my technique especially since I pared it with a jazz III pick... so its giving me all the more reason to lay my fingers on that lovely rosewood fingerboard every day! :luv:
