My classic custom went to the doctor...

Post by supereiv »

Hey fellows

Remember that post ? http://guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3180

I just have my classic custom from the guitar tech ( I don't know how you translate "luthier" ), a set up, with 11/49, a cut of the pickguard, and now.....

it's a BOMB waooooooooooow :alright: it's way better like this, the pickups were too far from the strings, the strings too light, now it's a tone monster, beware or it will :BangBang: any other guitar, I'm afraid to let my legacy out at night, the classic custom might eat it while I'm asleep

it's baaaaaad... I'm sure you know what I mean.

Anyway, all you classic custom owners out there owe you this favor (IMO obviously) !

I'm a happy man, yeah !

and thanks too all of you

oh, and by the way, my tech told me my tortoise pickguard is made of acetate (wich is highly flammable when tooled that makes it dangerous and forbidden at least in France), but... the point is : according to my tech, that's the better way to have a tortoise that looks really great, and it's a bit expensive, you usually find that kind of material on luxury (say custom shop) guitars.
another hats off to G&L for providing such great options and quality material.
I wanted to share that information with you.

cheers Xavier

Congrats Xavier! Happy for you you could get your preferences dialed in.

BTW, 'luthier' translates to 'luthier'. No difference. After all about 25% of the English language has its origin in French. Voila.

I missed that post, I can't comprehend why they would make a guitar where you can't alter the pickup height!!! Glad it's been resolved.

Don't even try to find out how flammable that pickguard is - to experiment, get hold of a couple of the celluloid guitar picks and hold a lit match to them. They burn up very easily!

Hi Xavier,

Would you care to share a photo of the end result? (some will say it does not exist without proof ;) )

I'd be interested in knowing the height you have the neck pickup set to the strings.

Thanks,

sure Craig, I don't know if you can see what you want, but it's all I'm able to shoot at the moment (it's currently 7:30 AM on saturday morning here, and Jeanne, my almost 2 years old little girl DO WANT me to play with her instead of my camera ;) )

I have to say another thing, there are no springs underneath the neck pickup as it is supposed to be, and you can see the routing has been done for a classic neck p-up before the classic custom... Are all the asat CC routed like mine ?

I'm thinking of making the same mod. Do you know if your Luthier used wooden shims or springs to raise your pickup?

Foam is what is under the ASAT special too, stock. There are no springs as the covers are not physically connected to the pickups, the pole pieces just kind of run through them.

I remember pictures of the routing of the asat special that showed springs, but I you say so, I must have mixed it up
