How do you date G&L Guitar??

Post by bluvthompson »

Sorry if this has been revisited multiple times...I'm a noob to the forum.

Is there any online data base/website etc that dates G&L guitars??

I tried looking through the registry here by doing a range above and below my own guitar's sn but came up with some pretty random results.

Can anyone help??? And I would really rather not take the neck off if that's what anyone was going to respond :lolno:

Well first you approach its owner, and declare noble intentions to borrowing their guitar for a while, have a nice dinner, and then return it. It should pick up from there.

On a more serious note you remove the neck and there should be a date on the body and neck pocket. No other way to tell for sure so man up or live in curiousity.

You should check out our G&L Knowledgebase forum for possible
answers to your G&L questions. In particular is the How do I determine an instrument's age? post.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, maybe one day I'll "man up" and take the neck off. But for now I refuse to screw up the plek setup and intonation. I'm waaay to happy with the current set up to abate my curiosity for now.

Anyways, Thanks for the info Craig.

hey no worries about setup & intonation going awry...I remove about 3 necks a week on strat type guitars. The only way to screw up intonation is playing with the bridge screws. The plek sizes up the frets, which won't move around :) Just work the neck out slowly, as G&Ls have pretty tight neck pockets. A thin wipe of Vaseline will help getting it back in if its REALLY tight.
