Who is Jorge? Or the reading of neck and neck pocket writing

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Who is Jorge? Or the reading of neck and neck pocket writing

Post by Miles Smiles »

What does that mean?

Image

ASAT is clear, #1 is the neck option and the date must MAY or MAR in probably 1994, as the neck pockets date is fine to read:

MAY 14 1994

But: Who is Jorge?

Possibly something to do with John Jorgenson? ...A neck from a signature model or special order? (Or perhaps he just snuck into the G&L factory to whip up a neck in secret?)

The Jorgesons signature models are all in silver sparkle, but this one is cherry sunburst (I guess):

But it's not an ASAT3 out of the factory. The pre owner did modify it. I did the locking tuners as I eventually bought them for the Legacy, but the Legacy just takes Schallers.

The neck stamp looks to be OCT 07 1994. My guess is Jorge worked in assembly...

That would be my guess, too. The neck on mine says "Tony". Haha! Maybe it's their way of leaving an "autograph" on each guitar they worked so hard to finish? My other thought is I can kinda picture the neck builder finishing one up and then writing the name of the next guy in production that it's supposed to go to...like, "this one goes to Jorge", or "this is for the one Tony is putting together", etc. to make sure each piece gets to the right guy.

This thread could be a collection of neck pocket and neck leg pictures. I find them interesting as they are as good as a finger print. As I suppose, there are not two of them, which are exactly the same. So it would't be considered as hijacking, if you put your own pictures in here. :)

Oh yes your right, it's OCT 07, I forgot about that. I already had that date in the knowledge base.
Just changed the wood from swamp ash to alder there. I didn't knew much about that and thought, if one can see the wood grain it has to ash, by rule.

Jorge may be indeed the name of a worker, but in assembly? Wouldn't it make more sense, if he puts his name on, when he had finished the neck?

OK, so let's continue. What a funny name for a worker: Dlux ;)

This is the neck leg and pocket of my ASAT DeLuxe

And yes the pocket shows: Mahogany. ;)

I was in a picture posting mood and figured I'd add to the neck pocket collection

Twice the same date stamp! Apparently this 'antique' analog device does not come with a (downloadable) consistency check app :happy0007:

It would have been the right time frame for Jorgenson Sig components to be built, and they did come with #1 necks. The head stocks didn't match the sparkle finish on the bodies. They just had the signature decal instead of the normal ASAT one.

I'm half tempted to pull the neck off mine to check.

I couldn't figure out how to include the photo in the post :shocked028: .

This is a wild guess, but could this have had something to do with Leo's death? The neck is dated March 6 1991, and he died on the morning of March 21. I have to wonder if this guitar rolled off the line that day, and everybody signed it as a sort of tribute. Do you know what the body date is, or by any chance the assembly date?

Jos, this is what happens when going to work after too many pops the night before. Adjusting the stamp is not easy!-- Darwin

Please let me know the body date when you do the neck swap! I'm really curious/excited about this.
