2022 Fender vs G&L neck pockets

Post by patricks »

Hi all, I've built a guitar recently (pics and build report to follow) and made the decision to use a G&L neck in it. Everything I read said G&L and Fender necks aren't compatible, so there was the decision that if I replace it, it'll be custom/a project, or that I'll make a shim for the heel if I'm using a Fender neck.
I thought the difference was because Fender necks have an overhang at the 22nd fret and G&L necks go right through. I was in a music shop today, though, and noticed the necks on 2022 Fenders go all the way to the 22nd fret without overhang.
Has anyone compared recently? I'll go back with a sneaky set of calipers at some point just for interest, but thought I'd ask here as well :)
