Will a traditional sized MDF neck pup fit in a Fender Tele?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Will a traditional sized MDF neck pup fit in a Fender Tele?

Post by David »

I've got a couple Fender Teles on which I'd like to beef up the pickups a bit.

Anyone know if the traditional sized Magnetic Field Design single coil pickups used on G&L ASAT Classics will fit in a Fender Tele?

Thanks,
David

I think the height is different, depending on the pickup. Here's a picture from Gabe that shows the difference between an MFD and a vintage type pickup. I believe some of the noiseless pickups are the same depth as an MFD. I'd measure the pickup cavity depth and check that against the height of an MFD.

20 years ago, G&L used to sell the ASAT Classic pickups for Tele replacement, so unless something has changed in the neck pickup pocket of Teles, you should be golden.

An MDF pickup - Medium Density Fiberboard - might be really dark sounding. ;)
