Problem with Mangan strings on my Legacy

After seeing somebody's post raving about Mangan strings, I decided to order some to try out. Turns out that the final wind on the plain strings that hold the ball end is about 1/8th inch longer than the Boomers i have used since forever. Not a problem on any of my guitars except my Legacy. The winding is long enough that it sits on the crest of the saddles. I had to cut the ball ends off of my old strings and slide them onto the strings to alleviate the issue. Anybody ever run into this issue before?

I don't remember dealing with that when I was using Mangans alot.
I don't think I strung them through a newer block though.
Was it that way on all the strings?

Nope. Just on the plain strings.

So there are more wraps at the ball end on the unwound strings? I've never noticed that--I'll have to check the sets I have. It's not an issue on my ASAT and I don't have a Legacy.

Other than that how did you like the strings?

I just took a look at one of my new sets of Mangan Pure Nickles and measured the wrap portion at the ball ends. The WOUND strings measured 3/4 inch of wrap, and the plain UNWOUND strings actually measured about an 1/8 inch LESS. This appears to be opposite of what you are reporting.

Perhaps you got an oddball set.

I'm a bit of a string freak and have had quite a few sets where the tie wrap from the "ball" end was too long--meaning the wrap hit the saddle on the DF bridge. Bad! My solution is the same (which someone posted here on G&LDP back in ze olden daze): cut a dozen or so of the little brass ends off of old sets of strings (probably won't need that many, but keep them around just in case) and slide as many as needed as spacers onto the overwound string before inserting it into the DF bridge. Some strings won't need any, another might only need one or two. I've never needed more than three on a string. Works like a charm. And, NO, it doesn't alter the tone. You just have to have the old strings available to get the brass ends. (I save my old strings because I have a couple of friends who like to make thing out of them.)

I didn't check the length on the wound strings. I am saying that the wind on the Mangans are 1/8th inch longer than the wind on the GHS Boomers that I normally use.

The jury is still out on whether I like them or not. They definitely have a different tone which I am still trying to decide if I like or not. The strings definitely feel slinkier than the Boomers which also creates a bit of a problem because I am getting a lot more string buzz than before. (Especially on one of my Strats)

My point was that you reported the problem ONLY on the unwound strings--I found LESS wrap on my unwound than the wound strings.
