My first G&L: 1987 asat. what to tune up?

Post by cporro »

i've been interested in g&l for a while. it took me a while to pull the trigger. i've found it very difficult to evaluate tone when trying out new guitars. i bring my current guitar in and try to do an A/B but it's still hard. i think it takes some time. and the new g&ls seem to have a thicker neck then my strat which i'm very used to. don't know if i'll warm up to that. this older g&l seems to have a thinner neck.

finally i found this. i got into the zone while comparing it to my strat and could hear it obviously beat the strat in many places. we agreed the market value was about $850 and settled on that price. unlike the 86' asat i looked at this was not all rusted with flat frets, crusty strings, and a missing bridge saddle screw. yay!

now i want to tune it up a bit. should i follow the g&l manual for a set up? also the switch has some crusty white corrosion? on it. it works but has a bit more resistance then i'd like. ideas?

thx.

sorry can't get flickr to work with the forum.
