Comanche vs Legacy Hollow bodies

Post by cigblues9 »

I want a lightweight strat style guitar that is light with rounded edges on the fretboard. i am playing Fender now after longing for a lighter guitar with fender's rounded edges. How do the Cmanche's sound differ from the Legacy. i loved the Leagcy's sound.

Comanche has a lot more low end thump in the pickups. This is very useful with G&L's PTB system, because when you roll back the bass control, you get a pretty convincing regular strat style tone, albeit noiseless, and as you bring the bass control up, you get the low end boost that strat single coils won't do. I never found the PTB useful with regular legacy style pups because they just don't produce enough low end frequency content for the bass control to do much, but on a Comanche, man is it useful. So with the bass rolled down, you get very close to noiseless, regular strat sounds (not *exactly* like alnico singles, but close enough) and with the bass up you get the Comanche's unique strat-on-steroids sound. I'd also recommend getting the Will Ray Z coil bridge pickup. They are currently on sale in the online store.

Edit: Come to think of it, the extra low end from the Comanche pups would probably be just the ticket on a semi hollow, since you lose low end authority when you remove wood anyway, you'd get that back and more with Comanche vs. Alnico legacy pups.
