Heck, I just got done reading your yesterday's report.

Cool ASATs.

Cool amps. I don't know anything about those amplifiers. But if you love them, I bet they sing.

Can't help you with the strap inquiry. But what a thing to own. A true piece of history and beauty.

"If it ain't got swing..." , I keep telling myself.
Tuesday's LR now is more like a grace note for wednesday.

I guess we'll have to reverse engineer the whole strap/beaner/guitar connection :searching:

I had a nice big plate of chips and spicy beans and salsas (plural!) for lunch.
I've been adding smoked chili powder and smoked paprika to anything I can recently...yummm.
What's been satisfying your tastebuds lust for life this season?

I bought myself a new tool. As much as putting my nose to the grindstone feels like good honest work;
being able to plug that grindstone in gets things done much faster ...and much less cramps from sanding things
for hours on end. I found myseld not playing guitar because I was using all those muscles making them...

This was only about 120 bucks and I love it !

Here's a funky tool from my toolbox...a 10 in 1 open end wrench . I like that it has no sharp edges.

Do you have any cool, bizarre, homemade or just awesome tools that you use or cherish?
I know I have a few things that have been around for decades and nothing beats the feel and function.

Do you still have any instruments that have stuck around for forever and always will?

I'm still on the hunt for a couple of those that should have stayed but got away;
a yamaha F-345 ll acoustic, Daion electric,Ovation 12 string etc etc

I'll get some G&L porn up soon...I needed to get something up for you all ...back after a short while.
Got any G&L porn that hasn't been seen in a while ??

all my best,

Here's some eye candy / G&L related stuff that I've been finding as I sort through piles of flat stuff in drawers ,
and older 'puter files.

This came with a DFV assembly from way back.

A member years back , Paavo , who was good friends with Dale Hyatt sent me some pics. I think they need to be seen once in a while (otherwise what are pictures for??). Both these men aren't around anymore...each have probably saved lives in their own way...anyway what was I doing?

...oh yeah ;

Back to the TOOL theme...or rather parts.
Here's some G&L MFD's that haven't yet really seen light. They are stacked MFD's. They need a nice thick
hardtail body ideally. And a couple coils are open so they are being rewound properly ...maybe someday we will hear them sing .

Image

I've a few more things to add ...so check back soon

rock and roll !!

My dad has one of those multi-wrenches, I was fascinated by it as a kid. Not the easiest shape thing to use though! My current favourite tool is a Casio FX scientific calculator. Very handy thing.

The guitar I'll never get rid of is my Baldwin Vibraslim, a semi-hollow made in England in '68. It has a unique two-knob tone circuit that I'll have to examine one day. One of them is like a regular tone knob, and rolling back the other makes it sound even jazzier. Neither effect the bridge pickup, so I have a suspicion that it's not functioning as intended, but what it is doing sounds excellent.

I have unofficially declared 2013 "The Summer of Hummus"
I've always liked it but have really been buying/making/eating a LOT of it this summer.
Dipping into it chips, crackers, or veggies or anything thats handy.

Do you have any cool, bizarre, homemade or just awesome tools that you use or cherish?
Nothing really cool or bizarre but I do have a couple of my grandfathers old handtools that I cherish. I have one of those old wooden folding rulers that just sits in a draw cuz I'm afraid I'll break it if I use it. How did he not break it using it every day for years? The other is an small hammer with a wooden handle. The handle is chipped and stained from decades of sweat and oils. I don't use it much except for the occasional light duty, like hanging a picture.

Do you still have any instruments that have stuck around for forever and always will?
I wish I had kept my first electric, an old Hagstrom.
When I was younger I considered selling my first good amp, a '65 Vibrolux. Luckily I never did sell it and doubt now that I ever will.

I've got some good tools around. Several are related to my wife's custom framing business.

Those ball end wrenches remind me of some bicycle wrenches I had when I was young, or at least I think they came with bicycles or they were for bikes. I may still have one or two around.
If they do the trick they are very compact and fit into a saddle bag.

I like the drawing done by our old friend George Fullerton. That man knew how to draw up a plan.

I miss Dr. Paavo too. He was brilliant and unfortunately lost his will to live. May he rest in peace.

I have never seen stacked MFDs before! What G&L was ever thick enough to handle those puppies?

Instruments that I will never get rid of: My 1980 L-1000, 82 L-2000, and my1960 Fender Precision bass top the list.

A day late but lunch today was a good sandwich. I have been replacing the sump pump and it is completed.

I have a real taste for porketta seasoning and we eat a lot of pork prepared with it. Pork Loin with this seasoning is to die for!

Yes, I have a wooden hand plane which was most likely made by my grandfather. It is basic but most likely did the job. He was a carpenter and not a stone carver as some accused
him of being.

I still have my 1962 Fender Concert Acoustic which I bought new. It will not be going anywhere. I must admit that I have many in the not going anywhere category. Cool LR as usual Elwood! I did watch part of the Mark Knopfler video until it stalled out. Great vid!-- Darwin

Bike tools are neat, and rarely can be used for anything else ( I'm thinking of a shimano hub wrench I bought just to pull shimano hubs of a certain size, still works 20+ years later so I guess it was worth 50 bucks in the early 90's)

I had some long semi-deep talks with Dr. Zakin...he helped me with some G&L mysteries and hooked me up with Gabe for the stacked MFD repair. Gabe says a hard tail cavalier type body was what would be the best body style . I think there might have been a preamp involved in the original plans that never came to fruition.
We might have to build a custom instrument for them to sit in.

I hear ya Bassman !!
Those L series are the cream of the crop...no matter what music, they just bring it.  I'm eager to share the sounds coming from my new to me '90-91 L-2000, that's one that has quickly has found a place in my forever list.

Good ole Paavo. May he rest in peace. A brilliant guy, gifted doctor, and 100% fan of G&L's. It was tragic how his life ended.

Tim
Cool Tim. While working with a friend who has repaired speakers all his life ...I saw the need for some brass
and wood (no ferrous materials ) screwdrivers. Had I continued working with him I would have made him a set. More than once I saw a horn diaphragm get dinged because of these huge magnets (those drivers magnets are the size of garbage disposals) drawing the tool to the center. I'm surprised they aren't more common.
It's good to have friends who like a challenge...bless them !

Weighing in late here...

Tools: A couple of years before I started accumulating G&Ls, I went crazy over old Stanley hand planes on eBay. I enjoy woodworking - especially building small pieces of furniture - and prefer using hand tools instead of power tools when possible. Most of those planes were pre-1940, and a few were from the early 1900s. Bringing them back to life was a lot like setting up an old guitar and making it into a sweet player.

Guitars: I've held onto my first "real" bass, which I put together from a couple of damaged Fenders back in high school. I also have an '86 Ovation Balladeer I picked up new in college, and carried halfway around the world back when I was sailing. Neither one gets much playing time with all the G&Ls in the house, but they hold more fond memories than any of my other possessions.

Cool Ken, I'd love to see some of your small furniture creations.
I made a little stand for my mom's computer with a nice spalted maple board, I'll snap a pic tonight.
I'm determined to make some music related furniture soon...stands, hangers , chairs/stools.
Next best to having an ideal guitar is having a really comfy chair ( with an armrest on the right that will drop to facilitate playing while kicking back.)

cheers

All the pieces in the house are up in the kids rooms, and covered with toys and books. My favorite is a nightstand/bookcase I built with a super-flamed maple top. If time permits this weekend I want to throw together a basic table - about 24' by 48" - to put a couple of synths on. Nothing fancy, probably just red oak or soft maple from the nearest Home Depot, pocket screw construction and an oil/wax finish. I'd like to build it on Friday and use it on Saturday...
