ASAT w/ old style headstock?

Post by truckfargo »

I have had an SB-1 for over 20 years and and F-100 for almost as long. Both have the smooth headstock. Now, I'm playing more "telecaster"-style guitar so of course I'd like a vintage old style headstock ASAT to finish off my collection; but do they exist? What guitar models did come in that old headstock style?

thank you.
An old F-100 Series II. The wooden glossy one.
An old SB-1. The sunburst one.

Since you are looking for an ASAT model, you can choose any one of the current models.
The ASAT headstock has not changed in size or shape.

Here's the 1986 ASAT Ad:

Here's a few of the current ASAT models:

Only very early F-100 guitars, L-1000 and L-2000 basses, and the 'student models', i.e. SC-, HG-, and (early) SB models, do not have the typical G&L hook. All but the student models had changed to the hook by '83 and with the discontinuation of the SC-3 in '91 the last non-hook model disappeared. The ASAT was only introduced in '85 as the Broadcaster. So it has never been hook-less.

Hope this helps,
