Tuesday LR, March 12,
Hi all,
Thanks for checking out the map project, it seems like it works like it should, it should be a fun
tool that could evolve some.
I grabbed a bunch of old pics of sold G&L's, somewhat at random , as filler for today's LR.
I'm running behind ( par for the course) , and wanted to get something up for y'all.
There's a pic of an Interceptor bass ( looks like it was made the same day as Ken's) that ha those odd burn in marks on the back. I'm thinking it's the raised pad in the case (the pads are sort of trapezoidal) if not a stand that must have been very common in the 80's.
I included an old root beer F-100 in the mix for Fred, and a couple ASAT's...man those are nice axes !
Here they are, possibly out of order :
I remember ribeye mentioning a quest for a LADO. Here's a SuperFalcon 2 I used to have...very beastly!!
...and the manual ...LOL
Hopefully some of this porn will spur a little discussion, I can't think of any good questions at the moment,
Maybe; What's for Tea ?
Here's one of my Faves~~~
(I've only heard the vinyl, not sure what extra's are included with this remaster)

Back when I can,
thanks for the inner sunshine !! (it's still raining here...I'm still dreamin')

Great pics Elwood. Are these guitars that you have sold? If they are, you have sold more than many people own. I viewed a few cuts from the video. Nothing to look at but sounds good. I missed the Who in my years when I was in a cave musically. Looking forward to what else you are coming up with. It is finally clear in Minnesota and we are soaking up vitamin D-- Darwin

Elwood,
Beautiful pics Especially, that F-100 and AC Sig. Drool ....
The Who Sell Out should come as a duo pack with Petra Haden's (daughter of bassist Charlie Haden) version:
I do not really know what to think of people that 'redo' classic albums though, but this one and e.g. Rufus Wainwright's 'Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall' are interesting to say the least.

Re: Tuesday LR, March 12,
I've heard some tracks from Petra's album....she does the material justice
I heard a radio interview with her and her latest project...I was less impressed ,
but everything can't be gold all the time. She even admitted that some of the tracks sounded like a chicken.
I am going to borrow that phrase as a title for a concept album that is a commentary on modern pop 'music' - " Sounds like Chicken "
( could be a part of a vegan durge project )
cheeers,

I'm so glad that painted necks didn't catch on!
Jos - I didn't expect to see Charlie Haden mentioned here, you're a man of very good taste! I'm a big fan of his work and so is the girlfriend. She always asks "who is this?" when I have it playing.

That has to be my Interceptor Bass. The grain pattern where the neck meets the body appears to be an exact match. I think the fingerboard grain will too whenever I get around to oiling it - it's much darker at the moment.Elwood wrote:There's a pic of an Interceptor bass ( looks like it was made the same day as Ken's) that ha those odd burn in marks on the back. +1. The intro to Lonely Woman is one of my standard warmups when I pick up the upright (the other being Stardust). Lonely Woman gets a lot of solo time on my G&L basses as well.blargfromouterspace wrote:Jos - I didn't expect to see Charlie Haden mentioned here, you're a man of very good taste! The first time you put up a pic of her it felt very familiar, I had a hunch.KenC wrote:

Did you buy her off ebay ?
Good to hear she get's oiled when she needs it ,
I can tell from my pics I sold her without polishing the frets, etc.

Re: Tuesday LR, March 12,
Thanks for the compliment Jamie. But you have to know I am more of a jazz guy (you should see my CD collection) who tried to see as many legends as I could while they were still alive. Alvin Jones in some bar in Alkmaar in '78, The Netherlands, and everybody saw at the Northsea Jazz Festival over many years ... Count, Milt, Dizzy, Miles, Don, Dave, Ray (Brown that is), Freddie, Dexter, Sun Ra, ... Wonderful memoriesKenC wrote:+1. And great stuff Ken! That is an absolutely amazing tune from a fabulous album. And incidentally it does not really matter whether the album in question is Ornette Coleman's 'Shape Of Jazz To Come' or Pat Metheny's 'Rejoicing'. Both have Charlie on the bass. But that acoustic guitar on the latter, built by Canadian luthier Linda Manzer, is one of the best sounding acoustics I have ever heard. Just too bad a signature copy of that guitar sets you back $30k

Those are some nice pics Elwood, it's always nice to see an older G&L that hasn't been modified,

I bought her from another G&LDPer last April - followed shortly by my Bahama Blue Lynx and Sunburst SB-2.Elwood wrote:The first time you put up a pic of her it felt very familiar, I had a hunch.KenC wrote:

I hadn't noticed the nick by the bridge. Oh well, it doesn't change my opinion...maybe takes a little bit of pressure off...

I haven't heard Rejoicing. I'll have to track it down. My favorite Lonely Woman is from the "Montreal Tapes" CD with Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell.yowhatsshakin wrote:And great stuff Ken! Re: Tuesday LR, March 12,
'Rejoicing' is one of the a great trio albums ever, with Pat, Charlie, and Billy Higgins on the drum chair. But I just want to make sure you get what you expect. Although Charlie plays bass on both albums, the first album mentioned has a tune 'Lonely Woman' as written by Ornette, the second 'Lonely Woman' as written by Horace Silver. Both great tunes, with great bass work.KenC wrote:I haven't heard Rejoicing. I'll have to track it down. I didn't know that Horace Silver also had a "Lonely Woman". Is one based on the other, or do they just share a title?yowhatsshakin wrote: Although Charlie plays bass on both albums, the first album mentioned has a tune 'Lonely Woman' as written by Ornette, the second 'Lonely Woman' as written by Horace Silver. Re: Tuesday LR, March 12,
Just sharing the title I guess, although I don't know the exact history of either tune and who might have influenced whom. But I cannot find much commonality between the 2 tunes. And of course there are many lonely women in the world ....KenC wrote:I didn't know that Horace Silver also had a "Lonely Woman".
