Monday LR , March 11

Post by Elwood »

Howdy all,
I'm happy to be serving up the Lunch Reports this week.
Nice job last week Ribeye, I'll try to keep the ball rolling.

A brief intro ...born and raised in NW washington , and I'm still here. Maybe I should get out more :eh:
It would be nice to have a bit more Vit. D in my system. Lately the NW hasn't been that sunny, I think
I'm playing more diminished and minor licks these days...LOL.

Lunch for me is a spicy barley soup with some homemade foccacia for dippin'. That ought to warm the bones for the afternoon.
I hear there's rain on the way. Besides all the free water ( that's a good thing, right? ) the banter of the rain allows me to turn up the amps without disturbing the zen of the neighbors yard.

So I've been a night owl , on good nights I get alot done.
One thing I've enjoyed is chatting with folks here on other sides of the globe. It adds color and richness to
the dank NW nights and can help get me resolve a diminshed mode sometimes

So I was curious about who is out there with a G&L and where approx. , etc.
This spurred a little G&L project ; I found a website that uses google maps as a canvas , you can draw,
insert images , text , etc.
I put a G&L logo Image

in the approximate area of a members posted location. I did this very coarsely and anonymously on purpose
as my only goal was to get a general idea of how our discussion group is spread around the planet.
If a member doesn't have a location posted , I'd just go to the next one.
So far I've gone through the first 100 or so folks registered, many that have posted recently, and several dealers that are active on the board here. The dealers Logos I made just a tad larger and inserted the name of the biz with the logo.
I haven't even really zoomed out and looked at the results from afar yet. I hope the link and widgets work for
everyone here, the site seems fairly user friendly .
Let me know what ya think...If you want a logo added to represent your country/state/mountain top...
just post a general location here or PM me and I'll make sure there's a neon green and black cloud above you

Here's the link:
G&LDPworldwide on Scribblemaps.com

This might even inspire a jam session or three, I've noticed a few more members in my area over the last...it'd be a blast to have a NW just a jam.

No G&L's in space yet...When do you think we'll get to see some real music played in zero gravity?
(could be sooner than we think)
Here's a clip from BBC's version of what has to be one of the funniest books in the universe -
Happy 61st B-day to Douglas Adams !!

I don't think I've ever played with two G&L's on stage or even just jamming, it's gotta sound great if things are mostly dialed in.
Have any of you jammed with a friend who plays a G&L ?

I've been going through some pics of G&L's I've let go...trying not to cry at times, but the porn is good in the least. I'll add a few pics later this afternoon as I have time.

I have my fingers crossed that the map widget thingy works well ,it could probably be embellished...any ideas ??

I'll check back throughout the day as I can,

Checking in from the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, USA, Planet Earth.

I've only let go of one G&L. I swapped a plain Honey ACSH for a Baby Blue Comanche and we both left happy. I am not an ASAT guy. I've got a Legacy to sell, and I keep thinking I should sell the ASAT Deluxe since I never play it, but it is hard for me to let things go.

I can only remember a few times that I've jammed with another G&L player...same guy, playing an L-1000 bass. We gave a lot of #### to one of the guys playing a Fender Strat one night..."Didn't you get the memo to bring a good guitar?"

Hey Elwood,

That map is really cool! Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

A bunch of my students have G&L's, so i technically do get to play along with other G&L's... But I have never actually had an official "jam" with another G&L present. (I kind of like it that way anyway, it insures that i always have the best sounding guitar of the group  )

Elwood, the sun shines here in Minnesota enough to just keep us sane. I do take a D supplement and signs of spring are showing. It is no longer below zero at night.

I looked at your world map and it is really nice. It will be interesting, when completed, where the G&Ls are hanging out. Like you Elwood, I have sold a few that I wish I could have kept but we can't have them all. If there were one I should have kept it would be my first Legacy HSS. It has had at least 2 owners since me. I had a MM JP that I traded for a Legacy a couple of years ago and that one is sill bouncing around town.

Our band will be pretty much G&L now. I will be the odd man out at times as I use my Carvin quite a bit because it is 2 1/2 lbs lighter than my L-2500. The L-2500 has killer tone and is the best bass for tone that I have owned. The Carvin does very well and is a KOA body and is lighter than some of my 6 strings. That wouldn't even be a consideration for the young strapping dudes but it does make a difference for me, especially 2 nights in a row. If only I were 50!!!! -- Darwin

good to hear it works...I'll have some fun pasting some oversized ASAT's somewhere around area 51 8-)

My new to me L-2000 sound soooo good, I'm craving a good band to play with to share the joy.
In the meantime I'll have to hobble some tracks together with me, me and more me...at least there will be
a couple G&L's talking with each other. I bought some cheap avid mp protools package...it sucks...but I bet I could put something together to share with a little vigilance.

Cool map Elwood. It was centered over France when I opened the link which reminded me how much I want to go there.

I'm a big Douglas Adams fan, love the Hitchhikers guide series dearly. I once went to a stage play based on one of his other works, "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency". I'm not keen on theater, but during the performance something incredible happened. The play delas with supernatural stuff, as you may expect from the title. At one point the main character pushed some papers off a desk and one of them landed upright, balancing on its edge before falling about a minute later :o ***queue 'X-Files' theme music***

G&Ls in space reminds me of the Black Ice series promo shot. Definite 'moonscape' vibe there.

I've only jammed with another G&L player when the other guitarist in the band breaks a string and its my turn to bring a backup, and when I met Philby of course!

Hey Elwood,

Cool map. More G&L people in the neighborhood than I thought! Haven't jammed with anybody having a G&L either. I have quite a few musicians as colleagues, many gigging, but they always get something of a blank and puzzling stare on their faces when I mention that I collect G&L. I went shopping at the local GC with one of them once and could barely talk him into getting a PRS SE Singlecut. Otherwise it would have been some cheaply made Fender.

As far as G&L's in space, that vacuum is getting in the way of getting an audience. Reminds me of a cover of a comic book, likely published in the early 60's with a reporter on the cover wearing a helmet for oxygen but still holding a microphone on the outside. :happy0007: Saw that picture in "from The Earth To The Moon' I think.

I haven't jammed with another G&L that I can recall. I did twist a friend's arm a couple of months ago and get him to play most of my G&Ls in one afternoon. It gave me a
chance to really listen to the tones more objectively than I can when I'm playing. I'm not saying that afternoon caused it, but he's up to his fourth G&L now...

So far your the only one with a full spectrum G&L band , I might have to start a band just to get there...LOL

I'm putting together a homemade L-1000 from parts with a home carved body ...it's super slim in hopes of shaving a pound or two...we'll see once she's done. I'm in my mid 40's and 10lbs+ times 3-4 hours of playing makes loading out no fun. I'll have to borrow my neighbor's scale and put the guts ,neck ,and body on there to
see how much weight I've lost by changing out bodies. ( The old body wasn't original to the parts so I didn't
do anything that us collectors might grimace at).

Spring !!! mmm...

Hey Elwood!! ... I appreciate you remembering my self imposed restrictions on publishing information about what I own, but ......... where's my logo????!!!! There are at least 4 I know of in Perth - me, stagecoach, Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan and as of this week my son who just picked up one of those olive green Tribute Legacy HB's brand new with G&L gig bag for $200!

Only other G&L player I've doubled with is one session with Karl ... but once my son gets his .....

You are represented !! I put a few over Perth ( might be just off the coastline , it's hard to be accurate at the scale I'm pasting ), one for you, stagecoach, and a youngster size logo for your son :)
I'll add the commish if he ever finds his way to the G&LDP.
Good job on finding the tribute for your son, what a deal!!

I might have placed one in the Simpson desert thinking of you and not wanting to be very specific at all.
