4 way switch for an ASAT Special?

Post by ChinoGee »

Hi friends,

I think to install a 4 way switch for my 1993 ASAT Specialso I've got a bunch of questions:

- First, is it a good idea?

- What is the benefit of the 4th position in term of sound? I'd like to listening this new position before deciding.

- I've seen the schematic on the gallery, but I'm not a tech, so is it complex for a tech to install it?

- Where can I find the switch?

Thanks in advance!

it's good, it does give you a series sound for the 2 pups. easy to install, and pretty much any music store, all parts etc.

Thanks for your reply Louis.

I wondered how sounds this serie sound? Is it an Humbucker type of sound? a P90 one? SOmething else? I'm very curious!

If someone had a sample, it'd be great!

I did the 4way switch on one of my ASATs , It's similar to the middle position sound you have now just...more, for lack of a better term. It is a bit thicker sounding to me, I guess you could say humbucker-y. Personally I don't use it all that often but ymmv. It does work nicely as a little volume boost though, and I've not taken the time to switch back. All in all, I would recommend it, it's a cheap mod and a lot of people like the added versatility.

Good Luck!

Thank you Dave! ;)

The versatility and the humbuckerish tone interest me.

It is a much fatter middle position, not terribly bright but really big on the bottom.

I use it an awful lot, often as Dave said, to push.
