G&L 25 Th Aniv Asat-2006

Post by darwinohm »

I know that some of you have them. They are Mahogany with the F-100 pickups. What are you thoughts on them. I ask because I had a special build Mahogany Bluesboy and never really bonded with it. It wasn't anything to do with the Mahogany but from a sound perspective, it wasn't nearly my favorite. I am curious. Thanks in advance. -- Darwin

They are versatile and loud rocking machines, as I describe on my website. I like mine a lot. IMHO, the 25th Anniversary is definitely to prefer over the Special Build hog Bluesboy which I mainly attribute to a profound unbalance between the pups. It is more interesteing to compare the 25th Anniversary with the F-100 Return Edition which has the same pair of pups but is even more of a screamer. And Darwin, you have one of those too, don't you?

Hope this helps,

- Jos

Hey Darwin,

I think it is a guitar that is unlike any other G&L that i have tried. Unplugged it is my favourite guitar to play - The things sounds almost like an acoustic it has that much resonance. You can feel the thing vibrate through you unlike any other wood combo i have. That being said, plugged in has a voice all its own that doesn't seem to fit in with the traditional G&L ASAT's, s-500's etc. I don't use mine live because i really have to do some tweaking with settings to find the sweet spot... I can't switch from the SC-2 to the 25th. I find the 25th much more focused in terms of tone, and while it is very open and airy sounding it doesn't seem to fill up as much "space" when playing live. (Very mid rich in comparison to my others) Now how much that has to do with the fact that its all mahogany and how much the f-100 pickups i don't know.
I think if you are looking for something completely different in terms of tone you will be extremely happy :happy0065:

Thanks to both of you for your responses and also the links Jos, I had looked at those earlier and just didn't remember what you had posted. I do love the sound of the F-100 Return and as you said Scott, it may be a different animal from the other G&Ls that I have. I am going to listen to my F-100 tonight and do some more thinking. If I decide on this one it will have to be a add as I do not want to trade any more although I may have a Fender or two that I could part with if I had to. Just looking ahead at this point. Thanks again-- Darwin
