We made a new demo ...

Post by RickT »

We took some time over the Christmas break and made a new demo. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

the playing and singing is great. the mix is a bit off. the bass and the kick fight each other, and the bass is too boomy at times. also overpowers quite a bit. i think there is too much compression on the bass, as the attack is a bit obscure, and the natural decay is missing. the vox area little far back and not enough presence.
the kick is too gated, and doesn't have enough punch. the eq can be easily fixed on both the bass and the kick. less boom and more punch. the difference is where the low frequency is added. 40-80 z is boom, 80-120 is punch. below 40 is rumble, and really should be limited.

Thank you all for the critiques. I don't know if we can fix these this time around but I've got these suggestions cataloged for our next recording session.
