could someone explain the difference?
is one a hard V and the other a soft V?

The 1d G&L Modern "V" is a 12" radius neck and has a depth at 1st fret of 0.890 and a depth at the 12th fret of 0.930.
The 2a G&L Vintage "V" is a 7 1/2" radius neck and has a depth at 1st fret of 0.830 and a depth at the 12th fret of 0.960.
They both have a 1 5/8" nut width.

I believe it has more to do with the fretboard radius than the sharpness of the V. Modern is a 12" radius, vintage is the 7.5" radius. FWIW I have an ASAT with the vintage V, it's a pretty soft V but definitely noticeable and chunkier than the "c" profile neck on my other asat. It's my favorite neck on any guitar I've played, that being said I've never had the chance to try the modern V. Good luck
