Purchased USA L-2500
I finally was able to realize a dream I have had for a long time. I recently purchased a "mint" USA-made G&L L-2500 bass through an estate sale. This thing is amazing!!! It appears to be Swamp Ash body (either Honey or Natural Gloss finish) with a beautiful quilted maple top and maple fretboard. I would like to find out more information on it, but from what I've read, the only way to find the year of manufacture is by removing the neck and checking the dates on the neck and neck cavity on the body. The serial number is CLF53604. Any suggestions on gaining additional information would be greatly appreciated. I checked the registry to try and get an approximate year, but could not find anything with a number that close to mine. I got this wonderful instrument with original case at an unbelievable price. If possible, I could upload some pictures, this is my first post.

Thanks Darwin. As soon as I figure out how to post some photos, you can see this baby in all its glory. It appears the guitar was never played, it still has the plastic film on the cover to the electronics cavity. Any advice on uploading pics? I have stored photos on a site called PhotoBucket in the past.

Looking forward to seeing your bass and don't forget to add it to our G&L Registry.
Congrats on a nice score!

Thanks for the link. I will get the pictures posted soon.
I entered my bass into the registry yesterday.

If this works right, you will be able to see my beautiful L-2500. I checked out the G&L guitar builder Darwin has mentioned in a previous post, and this axe may have been upwards of $3,000.00 depending on whether or not it has a quartersawn neck and possible stainless frets. Anyway, here we go with the links:

Well, that escalated quickly.
I don't believe that is an ash top. Looks to me like a nicely figured maple top. Either way, I want it.
Have fun playing that thing.

It's not ash, it looks to be quilted maple. I am in love.
