The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
Hi,
I got my Legacy back today and can't put it down. I am really impressed with the pickups in this beast. I am running it through a little known Fender solid state amp (Harvard reverb II). I get this great classic 50/60' ish vibe to it. I am running clean with a little bit of reverb. Sounds great and I haven't even plugged it into the MESA yet. I am wondering if anyone else out here has had the same effect with these 98 single coil pickups. I liked the 2000/01 Fender Noiseless pickups but these pups sounds more classic, more of what the guitar should sound like. I wan't to play surf music now. No 60 cycle hum though.
Lucifer,
Well, those were on a fender strat at the time playing through a Digital setup. Can't say that I agree with you on your statement. I am really enjoying these pup's right now. Buddy Holly comes to mind. You are one hell of an instigator on this board aren't you? How about giving me some alternatives that would work with my guitar, primarily blues and classic rock. Do you have it in you?
I briefly owned a '97 Legacy, and loved the pickups. That was my only Legacy so far, and it only went back because of truss rod issues. I currently own two '98s - an ASAT Classic and an ASAT Bass - and think the sound and construction are second to none.

the legacy pups are fine pups. i was just commenting on the comparison, those fender noiseless pups were pretty bad.
I'm with you Stop, I love these pickups. I owned a 1960 Strat for many years, and I have to tell you, I haven't really missed it since I bought my first Legacy.
I do have one Legacy with a Duncan Texas Hot Antiquity set. They are really good, but they have a much thicker tone. If you like the bite of a vintage Strat, the G&L pickups are as good as they come. You can find boutiques that do well too, but the stock pickups work just fine.
Bill,
Yep, these are nice sounding pups. can't believe what I have bee missing out on. I'm going to have to buy another Legacy so I can swap pups out, I'm leaving this one stock. I'll need to buy a couple ASAT's to to do the same thing. What type of pups do you recommend for the ASAT, stock or another type?
When I get the money I think I will order from G&L an ASAT hollow body w/ F hole, Mahogany body w/ Swamp Ash/maple top, satin gun oil figured maple neck, Bigsby tremolo, bone nut, locking tuners, and single coil bridge/middle w/ a humbucker for the neck on a darker Honey Burst, all on a sesimee seed bun. That's how good I think these guitars are. Thanks.
