ASAT Classic PU heights. G&L reco very high, What do you use

Hello from a prodigal member here. I used to be active back in the day but haven't read or posted for years
Ya see, I've gotten my ASAT Classic (Signature) out of mothballs and have been tuning it up to snuff again after years in rest.

After re-setting a cold solder joint on the neck MFD, I have been playing with overall adjustment of that PU before I screw pickguard on again.
Seems to me the factory reco (see manual) is awful close, but again I have been used to Fenders clearance for years now.

Does anyone really set their MFDs that close? Seems real close and super "hot".
If not then what reco? I want commit to a ballpark before remount pickguard.
