1991's Superhawk

Post by Matdeflo »

Hello,
First, sorry for my English, I'm french (and everybody knows that french people arn't very good in english :D )
I bought this unusual Superhawk (Serial number G027873) a few years ago :

The vibrato is a Dual fulcrum (not a Kahler), the color is a three tone sunburst, neck is maple with natural headstock... Very unusual for a Superhawk ! I don't know what's the body's wood, but it's very (very !) heavy.
For you, is it a custom creation ? I don't find anything about this guitar.
Thanks !
Mat

That is an interesting, Superhawk! I'd say someone special ordered it. The body wood is most likely maple.

Hey Mat,

That is a wonderful looking guitar! Beyond yours, there is indeed only one other Superhawk registered with a DFV like yours (+ another 4 with the fine-tune mechanism). Pretty rare indeed. My guess for wood would be ash. But can you show us the back of your beauty?

I bought this guitar on ebay nine years ago for a few euros (g&l wasn't a well known brand, it's changing with the Tribute series), it stayed more than ten years in its case without being played !

Wow Mat! That's a great Superhawk! I've never seen a burst finish on a Superhawk. Thanks for sharing pics of a great looking guitar!

Thanks for updating your post!

We currently have a total of 3 Superhawks with DFV bridge in our G&L Registry. Yours is the only on in 3-Tone Sunburst.
See: Superhawk - DF Vibrato System.

Your guitar looks like it wants to be played. The best trem, a maple body and a great color! Do not under estimate those Schaller pickups. They can sound wonderful.

Very nice,

Thanks, I do not under estimate those pickups, I love them ;)
I hesitate to install a push / pull to split them, I know they're wired for...

This is the wiring. I think I will buy news components and change it for coil spliting.

If you want to do that, I'd advise to unsolder the pickups and take out the complete wiring harness. Use all new components everywhere and keep the old harness with the guitar, In that case, you can easily restore the guitar to old specs if you want to sell it. Some people are sticklers for "originality" ;-)

Hi,
Little problem : this is the color code that Schaller uses for their humbuckers : https://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_R ... ckups.html
4 colors : white, brown, green, yellow.
On my Superhawk, only one is used : the black one. Ouch :D

There are some Schaller humbuckers with two wires : black and grey...
So my project is over, impossible to split humbuckers with two wires !

Great instrument.

Can't split?

Use that ASAT instead.
