Thanks for all the responses to the reports. I appreciate all the wishes for P and C (that's sister and future brother-in-law). You all have so many insightful and encouraging things to say. On C, my brother-in-law, I most definitely will pass on your appreciation for his service--as I too am very thankful and respectful of his commitment. In his case, he signed up knowing that he would almost certainly do a hardship tour in either the sandbox or the other place. He didn't know he would want to get married.
So a lot of preparations today. I know a lot you guys out there cook. Anybody else have a callous on your index finger. Oh this is a guitar forum, do you have a callous on your right-hand index finger, right where your finger and had meet? From a chef's knife? Or do you use those new-fangled spinning devices?
Cooking Questions
How much do you cook? I cook all our food. That is pretty much my only domestic duty. Cooking and grocery shopping.
What's your most critical, favorite, or ingeneous cooking tool. I go with good knives. I have both German stuff and Japanese stuff. All great. But if i only had 1, it would be a hard German steal in the French shape.
What's your signature dish? I have a few, buy my charcoal roasted tri-tip roast is great.
I am a big music fan, and we will have all kinds blasting today to energize the spirit. Here's a youtube link for an indie band I kinda dig. They are from Portland. They honestly sound better live. When I saw them the first time they had a killer jazz fusion guitar player. I think from Bend or Hood River or something with them. I think they basically support themselves by touring, and they go all over and just hit clubs. I know, it's not incredible, but catchy and to me it kinda feels honest.
The first one is topically appropriate for me today.

I might throw special delivery in for spin today. Here's another. I think the poster misspelled the name of the song, it's a play on Organic and Oregon. Like Oregonic or something.

Edit: Of the phone.
Post you, your band, a link to a G&L demo you have shared or any independent thing you think is worth sharing.
G&L Question
I am officially scraping the bottom of the barrel on G&L questions. We have had a lot of discussion on ASAT jacks over the couple of years I have been around. Let's put some numbers too it. Barrel Jack or old open jack. And any lurkers better weigh in, as well. You don't want your valuable opinion left on the scrap-heap of history.

Your sister sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders and is devoted to being his ally at home as he steps into battle. I hope she has the friendships and resources she needs to support him. No matter the action, this will be an ordeal. Glad they have found each other to see it through.sickbutnottired wrote:Thanks for all the responses to the reports. As for cooking, I cook sometimes- but my favorite thing to do is grill! Dry-rubbed, slow cooked ribs is my favorite.

Re: Friday - 02-17 or -2 to wing time
Loved the adventurous week Jeremy.
I had a doctor appointment today and will probably have pancakes, real maple syrup, bacon and eggs with coffee for lunch.
Has anyone else experienced a trend in doctors being profoundly late at keeping their appointments? I have had a string of them this year. Some I minded more than others. I know what it is to be a few minutes late myself. This morning I was not in a department of some hospital with a large number of people in the waiting room. This was a private office and mine was an early appointment. Just how many appointments before mine could have ran long to make him 65 minutes late? My dentist had me waiting for 20 minutes and it was only supposed to be a quick consultation in and out in 10 minutes. I did not have time to wait any longer and do the consultation so I was forced to leave without seeing him (the dentist not today's doctor). When we are late we might have to reschedule and even pay a fee but neither even made the effort to notify me they were running behind when I arrived. When you are far enough behind there is no making up for the time and you need to be upfront about the situation so people know what they are in for.
I do all of the cooking and have the kitchen dialed in to step up the pleasure of cooking. I have always enjoyed eating so cooking has been interesting though to some people it might not be thought of as one process (planning, preparing, cooking, eating and finally cleaning up). Good knives are essential. My parents always had terrible knives and even when they acquired a decent knife my father would ruin it with unconscious and crude sharpening procedures. Over the years I have had a few signature items that come and go as I tire of them. I make a cheesecake that has always been well-received. I make a competitive chocolate brownie that has just the right amount of flavor and texture. Main dishes, I have this sort of stir-fry thing that people enjoy. I have been going with basic meals for years now and cannot think of anything I have been cooking during this period that I would bring to a pot luck to stake my name on though..........just remembered my evolved banana bread.
I have read a little about the ASAT jack but I do not know enough or have the experience to offer an opinion so I cast a vote for that great pun in number three, I do not know jack, (There is more than one great pun in your post today). Based on knowing nothing about the specific items mentioned, I do not care as much about nostalgia as I believe something needs to function properly. So if there has been a problem, step up and make a change over to the best product at the factory stage so an otherwise great guitar does not suffer from the weak link.

Wedding update: Festivities have officially begun with the extended bridal party going for pedicures. My sous chef says it is too early to test the whisky, we have all the meat marinating.
Insanity meter: pretty normal
Jag, Yea my sis is great. But I had a failed marriage to a great gal, so you worry.
Micheal - My wife and I waited in the exam room for over an hour for her surgeon on a followup visit. If he apologized profusely, and explained what happens. Plus he was an amazing doc, so that kinda took the edge off.
Also, I have sent out a hail-Mary soft nomination for LR next week. Anybody want to volunteer if I don't connect (which I think is pretty likely. I didn't give the individual much time to get message and respond?)

sickofbeingtired, it seems the title of that song indeed is organic acoustic, at least according to the band's own website.

I'm the house cook and grocery shopper too. We have a fantastic food market - not a god-damn supermarket - 5 minutes away from us where you can get anything you want. There's a huge meat and fish section, all sorts of little stores, a really good Polish meats deli, a bunch of bakers, a bulk wine place and all that sort of stuff as well as a bunch of Indian, Italian and Chinese grocers. It still smells like a proper market.
My favored tool in the kitchen is the Chinese chefs knife. Looks like a cleaver, but isn't. It's just a big broad knife. I've had the same one for about 5 years so far and it only cost $5, and it shows no signs of wear. I've considered getting a 'you beaut' Japanese samurai sword technology one but at 30 times the price of my cheapy it simply cannot be justified.

Re: Friday - 02-17 or -2 to wing time
I've had the grunge for the past few days so have not been messing with computers.
Hate to sound like a novice or something but I really don't give a hoot about jacks.
I do alot of cooking but not near as much as I used to.
My signature dish - probably eggplant lasagna. Key is the sauce. While real Italian sausage is necessary I also tend to throw every leftover in the fridge in there and just boil it down all day. I then let it sit in the fridge overnight.
Don't have any favorite utensils although for whatever reason I have to use wooden spoon.

Re: Friday - 02-17 or -2 to wing time
Thanks again Jeremy for a great week of LR's.
Of all the evening meals, I would say my wife and I eat out for dinner about 20% of the time, and share cooking duties the remainder. And we have made it a rule to actually have dinner, i.e. cook, sit around the table, talk and eat, and have been doing so for the last 27 years. I love cooking anything Italian, not just past but also more elaborate meals like osso bucco, and/or Chinese, stews, and do all the grilling, my wife is great cooking Indian, fish, and can toss many a mean salad. Never a boring meal!
One of my friend plays in a band called Half Acre Day and I really dig their Beatles-esque, Pink Floyd-ish kind of weird lyrics tunes. Their music is somewhat scattered all over the place. Here is their My Space (does that still exist?!) link.

I too do the shopping and the cooking in the house. I do great breakfasts, and make all the dogs in the neighborhood slobber when I'm working the grill out back on the deck. Put a few drinks in me and I might share some of my secret marinades.
I have never had a problem with any ASAT jack. I suspect the whole defect rumor was started by FMIC which was frightened by the quality and tone of the competition. 'Nuff said! (btw, as a moron, I don't know jack!).
Hope the wedding was fun and joyous! Fine week! - ed

Re: Friday - 02-17 or -2 to wing time
Jeremy, I am finally back and still tired. Ginny did not go as she usually doesn't go to out of town gigs. It was a great gig and we stayed up until 4 AM talking smart and watering down. You would think by now, I would know better but we do it over and over.
I do a lot of cooking and also most of the grocery shopping. Probably one of my seat is doing a porketta on the grill. Pork loin with porketta seasoning is best know on the iron range in Minnesota.
I posted a thread on barrel jack replacement about three weeks ago as I had to change it on my new L-2500. I replaced with another Switchcraft barrel jack and the new one works fine. The biggest problem is that most of the plugs on cords are metric today and the jacks are 1/4 in. The plugs are smaller. The nice thing about the open jack is you can bend the contact to make it work and the barrel jack is fully enclosed so they can be adjusted. I am going to order some football type jacks and start using them for replacement.
Thanks again for the reports this week and I hope the wedding was delightful as I am sure the food was!-- Darwin
