I received a Buckshot the other day for the LRs (thanks Craig ). I think I may have found a keeper. I don't like OD pedals all that much, after a while the one's I've owned have all sounded shrill to me. This one still has to be tested at a gig (no gigs requiring OD until the 21st...typical ), but based on it's sound when I'm practicing it's an improvement on the Signa drive it's replaced. There's a very nice modern country dirt sound in it, which is what I use OD for. One initial gripe is that it doesn't seem all that touch responsive, meaning that with light picking the amount of dirt doesn't back off as much as I'd expect. But it is a fun pedal that feels and sounds good - I did find that I got a little carried away while playing with it this arvo which is always a good thing.
The build is, as you'd expect from G&L, excellent. The chassis mounted jacks and switch and the nice knobs elevating it even beyond the high standard of the BBE pedals. The battery clip is riveted to the enclosure! Even has a CLFxxxx style serial number, very cute. I like the non-blinding red status LED - the blue LED on an MI Audio pedal I have could probably be seen from the moon. I even almost like the look of this one, the G&L logo looks very nice on the '70s Holden Kingswood tan colour (see below), though I could do without the cartoony 'Buckshot' font and shotgun blast thing on it...
3/7 of the products on my pedal board are now BBE ones which have come after a lot of expensive trial and error with pedals costing twice as much - Paul, you're damn good at your job! Imagine if the Whipper Snapper, or even better a 100 watt 212 version were to be released . Probable sonic bliss.
Exhibit A: A 1970s tan-coloured Holden HQ station wagon. Stylish, yet practical.

Re: G&L Buckshot Review
Did you get chance to gig the Buckshot yet Jamie?
Just got mine yesterday, so far I like it, A/B'd it with the Green Screamer. All in all the Buckshot is warmer sounding but at my preferred settings (V6, T2-3, G3-5) they are pretty similar. I'm going to bring it with me to practice this weekend so I can hear it in the mix.

Re: G&L Buckshot Review
Dave, your favored settings are the same as mine - gotta have that tone low for a thicker sound. I've gigged with it a bunch of times now and still like it. I'm never over the moon with OD pedals, but I'll end up keeping this one just so I have an OD, not because it's super-fantastic and can't do without it or anything.
I'd wondered if there were similarities between it and the Green Screamer, especially since they're both TS style pedals from the same manufacturer. It would be interesting to hear from someone on the inside about this

Unfortunately it isn't mine, John, but my dad had one identical to it. Just about everyone I know has fond memories of sticking to the vinyl seats on hot summer days in the Kingswood wagon
