Help identifying ASAT color

Post by axe2grind »

Hi all - new to the board. Browsing through it looks like a great site!

I bought the ASAT pictured below about a year ago. The seller said it was a custom shop color, but didn't now the official G&L color. Was hoping someone here could help me out. Thx!

It's Gold Metallic. Yukon Gold is too recent a color for that vintage ASAT Special.

Here's your photo as an inline image. Nice early 80's S-500, too!

Please do register both of your G&L's in our G&L Registry.

Hope this helps.

Is that an S-500 or an early Skyhawk (or maybe a Nighthawk)?

Now that I look at it some more, I think it might be a Skyhawk or Nighthawk, not an S-500.
The plastic pickguard is the identifying key to me.

Good eye, Ken. :searching:

We will have to wait for axe2grind's answer.

Thanks. I have 'Hawks on the brain at the moment. I've been favoring my '86ish Skyhawk as my go-to guitar for the past couple of days. The tone that comes out of those MFDs amazes me every time I plug in. That particular instrument is absolutely the sweetest I've ever heard.

The 'Hawk in the photo seems incredibly white for a guitar that age. Mine has turned a soft buttery yellow, as have all of the other mid-80s white G&Ls I've seen.

As far as I now, there's no custom shop at G&L, isn't it? ;)

The words "Custom Shop" got a bad taste for me. Since other companies have such so called shops and where no custom orders are taken, but just the only good instruments are made.

I agree completely about the MFDs! Best sounding and playing guitar I've ever had in my hands. So versatile!

It looks more white in pics, but it's actually aged to a nice cream color.

Please don't keep us in suspense, what model is it?
