Test drove a Korina Bluesboy
Last week I made a periodic visit to my nearest G&L dealer's website to discover they had a Korina Bluesboy in stock! So I corralled the band's lead guitarist and came up with an excuse to drive an hour to the dealer (they could have another try to solve my Comanche Studio VI's occasional shorting out to ground). The korina makes a great looking guitar, natch, so I snagged a Victoria Regal II from the dealer's amp room (in use by a guy trying out some great OMs!) and pulled one of the 5881 output tubes, hoping to have just enough watts from one tube to overdrive that amp. We were in the electric guitars room, next to the repair shop's open door, so I couldn't crank the Regal past 7 and it was staying clean up to that point. But the BB sounded good, especially in the middle position of course! I didn't find that it had as much mahogany tone from the korina as I expected (comparing it to my ASAT Jr.) but then, it does have different pups in it. We then plugged it into an adjacent Orange Crush 35 solid state amp and cranked the gain---all pickups really shined with that tone! The guitar had been tried out quite a bit---the pickguard covering was well worn! I've got a feeling that guitar won't stick around there too long!

I'm gassing for a korina BB, or a korina Deluxe, or hell, korina korina
(as Mr. Dylan sang)...
Maybe G&L should use BD singing the opening to that song in their ad! Korina Korina, where ya been so long...y'all take it from there!
I want one of the GbL BD Korina Korina where ya been so long t-shirts....hey, I thought of it first!
