ASAT Classic and old tube amp
I am the proud owner of an all original '59 Gibson Gibsonette GA-8 amp, and folks that amp just loves the MFD pickups on my ASAT..So much chime, I swear it sounds like a Rickenbacker..G&L Rocks..Scott..

There is something about those old Gibson amps.
I wonder what amps Leo used when he was designing
the MFD's and determining pickup placement?

A friend of mine has a Early 40's Gibson EH-185. When we were in high school he beat me to it at a local music store, he paid $50 for it! Someone painted the tweed so that kinda kills the collector value, but man does it sound good. Still works after all these years too, everything is original except for one tube(which was in it when he bought it)

Just got around to reading this one.jwebsmall wrote:There is something about those old Gibson amps.

Leo had at least three Musicman amps around that he used for testing pickups. It's not that he thought they sounded best, it's just what he had around at that time. If he would have used his favorite it would most likely have been a tweed bassman.

LOL..Sounds familiar..Got mine for $50 too..It was covered with contact paper..Took a hair dryer and a lot of Glue be Gone to get the tweed back..but it looks pretty good for 50 year old amp..Dave_P wrote:A friend of mine has a Early 40's Gibson EH-185. I get really happy results with the MFDs and little Blackface-type Fenders, Deluxe / Princeton / Pro Reverbs. Agree about the tone pot (and I like it; I make tone tweaks either side of my main centre spot - I like that way better than having tone on max all night).
G&L's are just great kit. Severely underrated here in UK, for the most part.
