Generally speaking, would a USA made Legacy with a swamp ash body be heavier or lighter than one with an alder body? What about an ash body? I guess what I'm wondering is - what is the relative heaviness of those three types of woods.
An insights would be most appreciated

Re: Legacy Weight
If you Google this question you come up with a plethora of threads in various forums with conflicting answers:

If you search only this forum there are also numerous threads:

I used to believe that ash was inherently heavier than alder but there is so much variance between different pieces of wood within the same species I don't think you can make a blanket statement. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
I used to have a Fender Nocaster RI that was the lightest ash bodied guitar I ever played--it was lighter than my small body SC-1.
My new ASAT Classic I think is rather heavy for an ash body...It's over 8 lbs.
Many years ago, I had a friend with an ash Strat that seemed heavier than any Les Paul I had ever picked up.
I seem to recall a thread quite a while ago where someone asked if when placing a special order they could request a lightweight body. I don't recall if the factory was able to accomodate such a request or not.

Re: Legacy Weight
I do not think there is a generality. The heaviest that I have had was an Alder Bluesboy. Some of my swamp ash are considerably lighter. The swamp ash can vary considerably from guitar to guitar. I have a swamp ash legacy which is heavy and an S-500 swamp ash which is quite light. Therefore I believe that there is no general rule.-- Darwin.
