after market bridge assm.'s

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

after market bridge assm.'s

Post by frederick j »

anyone using a older tele type bridge assm. i.e, three saddles , in place of the standard g&l 6 saddle. just curious as to what brand, and where there any significant changes in tone/sound/sustain??? also do they bolt on so to speak, or does one have to drill new mounting holes, and string holes?
looking to try maybe, on a custom classic model. thanks in advance

I have a three saddle Glendale bridge on my Bluesboy. There are no noticeable improvements and it was a complete waste of money. The stock G&L bridge is very high quality. If you must try one make sure you get one with four mounting screws and not three. The pickup mounting holes should match up perfectly.

Hi Frederick,

I'm with Blarg here. I've tried it and went back to the original. Not that there aren't good 3-piece properly intonated bridges out there in the marketplace but the standard 6-saddle G&L bridge is just so much more versatile given that each string can be corrected separately. You can still do the experiment and see if it works for you; and I would encourage you to do so (in the trust but verify kind of vain). But don't feel too bad if it doesn't work out.

Hope this helps,
- Jos

I do fancy having one that's cut away on the treble side, though, just for picking freedom.
But, like everyone's saying, no reason to backtrack to 3-saddle.
Maybe we should just start cutting back G&L ones - right tools + patience + sympathetic plater = job done?
