Sweetest Of All.
Had a call from Tim at AG&B on Friday telling me that he had a guitar I may want to look at. I stopped out on Sat and looked but something esle got my attention, a new SC-2 in Fullerton Red. I came home and started researching and I thought the guitar had a maple fretboard but as I was researching G&Ls website found out they only come with rosewood. My mind will do this at times so I asked a question of you guys and I got some good information. I remembered the guitar as being very light. I stopped back today and looked again. It was a maple fretboard with the light GOT and gloss. Absolutely stunning with the Fullerton Red body and I then noticed that it had the DF vibrato. Then I realized that the pickup covers were creme. It was a special order by AG&B. It is now at home here and I have not been this stoked about a new one for a long time. Ginny will forgive me on this one when she gets back! Anyway, she has the camera so I will post pictures of it in 2 weeks. Meanwhile I will have to just lust over it and be lonely at the same time. I wish it had a waterslide SN.-- Darwin

Darwin, there is currently a RED vintage 80's SC-2 on eBay (item #320762682052). You may have to buy both so you can compare the reissue with the original!!!

Re: Sweetest Of All.
I just lowered the action and completed the setup. A .015 shim in the neck brought in right in where I want it. .045 to .050 high e and just over .050 on low e. I plugged it in for the first time and it is what I expected. Wide range in tone and the bridge pickup does some serious Tele twang. Overall the guitar was set up very well, string alignment great and neck pocket fit is perfect. I never thought I would see a maple fretboard SC2 and it is sweet. We will see how sweet Ginny thinks it is when she gets back!!!
Eddie, SPG, I will have enough of problem explaining one, let alone two, besides there are 10 days to go!-- Darwin

G&L had opened up the options list for the SC-2 several months ago, they just have not gotten around to updating their spec page on the SC-2. BTW, the specs also don't mention that body comes with the arm and rear body contouring.darwinohm wrote:Had a call from Tim at AG&B on Friday telling me that he had a guitar I may want to look at. Congratulations!
I really like mine (Belair Green with Saddle-lock bridge), it's the one I have out on a stand in my room at our Northern Calif. home.
Enjoy.

Re: Sweetest Of All.
Hey Darwin,
Congrats on the SC-2, i know you will love it..... mine has been the only guitar i have been using at the last 3 gigs and boy does it get some looks! I ordered mine with swamp ash and locking tuners as soon as i had found out you could get them with all the options. It would be really interesting to A/B the maple/alder and rosewood/ash combos to see how much the tone is affected. I am almost ready to order another..... gold metal flake would look super cool on that body shape also!
vulpesoutfoxed, I was actually thinking about you the other day.... i was wondering what the painted headstock looked like and if you had gone ahead with the pickguard. I guess i now have my answer! (mine was close to 26 weeks, not that you wanted to hear that)

Re: Sweetest Of All.
Thanks guys for the comments. Craig, I just assumed the body contours were normal on the SC-2. These have to be gems that many people have overlooked. You get the close to the sound of an ASAT Special, a light, compact body with the sculptures, a DF and I couldn't pass up a Bel Air Green either. Gitman, that sparkle of yours is super. These could be the Porsches' of G&Ls. -- Darwin

Re: Sweetest Of All.
My goodness! Just as I begin to whine about the wait for my guitar, what should I have the fortune to hear today? Why none other than a call from the local guitar shop to inform me that my day was going to get a whole lot better because this crazy little belair green G&L showed up and was waiting for me to come pick it up. So far all I can say is WOW! fit and finish is beautiful, and must say just in seeing it today, the satin frost top coat, I am a fan.
Scott, I am really pleased with the body color headstock on this guitar, gives it a really cool vibe right out of the case hehehe. I wasn't able to talk may local dealer into inquiring about having G&L do the pickguard. I do however still think i am going to get one put on it, kind of make it my own. Just had to wait for the guitar to get here so that i can make a tracing to get quotes on having the guard cut. I think have a good design in mind that will not intrude too much on all that wonderful green.
And, I know, I know, it doesn't exist until there are pictures. I will get pictures up tomorrow since i do have the day off, provided I can put the guitar down long enough to get the photos taken. I will also get it up on the registry tomorrow as well.

Congratlations, Brandon. Congratulations Darwin. I'm a big fan of the SC-2 model. Though I've never put my hands on a Reissue, I understand that they are wonderful instruments. Looking forward to pictures, guys. Enjoy 'em! - ed

Glad it finally came Brandon and the matching headstock is a nice touch. Bel Air Green is simply awesome and I bet the frost finish is nice. I haven't seen one yet. Looking forward to the pictures. Ed, I am enjoying it. I didn't know that they were this sweet. Glad I saw it in the store or I would have never known.-- Darwin

Re: Sweetest Of All.
Yep.
And you can borrow any guitar I own, any time, Darwin.
- ed
btw, the Red is a nitro refin. It is my understanding that the goal was to match the original color to the extent possible. That guitar really rings!
Bassman has it right now, actually. I gave it to him to tweak, as when I got it, the intonation was off enough that even I could tell. Looking forward to getting her back shortly.....

Re: Sweetest Of All.
Eddie, I saw your link when you posted it and it was a recipe for disaster. I have recently brought the guitar count down and that is the direction that Ginny understands. I had guitars in the closets that were brand new and were damaged in the store. I restored two of them Monday and they are gone with full disclosure. Great buys for someone. I want to get down to 41 and a couple I don't count. Selling is the hard part as I don't have any that I want to sell. But, if you see a slick one, I appreciate a heads up. I don't need two SC-2s this week but show me a nice Bel Air Green in about a month and I will be weak! I'm home alone and did an inventory and brought all the files up to date. For the first time I did a list of what I have traded or sold. I would be ashamed to tell that count. I am almost where I want to be but it is not easy liking guitars!-- Darwin

Re: Sweetest Of All.
Congrats Darwin. I'd love to get a red SC-2 with a saddle lock bridge one day. How small is the body? I'm afraid it would look a bit small on a big fat guy like me...

Re: Sweetest Of All.
Blarg, If you were looking at the guitar standing in front of you, it is not as wide as an ASAT. Also the right(lower) horn is smaller and shorter. In addition with the body contours, front and rear it is a light alder body. I will post side by side pictures when the camera returns. Keep in mind that I was a Strat guy, now prefer the ASAT body with rear contour but I find this SC 2 body perfect. I don't think it would look too small on you. Especially if it were a Gold Flake with some bling!-- Darwin
