Climax Plus bridge pickup

Post by Donn »

Does anyone have any idea where I could come across a G&L Climax Plus Bridge pickup? Redoing a 1992 namm model and would like to have the stock pickup, plus I like the sound of them. Figure maybe someone might just have one stuck away in the corner of their workbench somewhere. Gotta find one------ Donn

Ho Donn,

I had to consult George Fullerton book 'George & Leo - How Leo Fender and I Built G&L Guitars' since none of the Climax models are listed in the List of pickups used in G&L guitars. According to the information provided in Chapter 31, the Climax Plus had two G&L humbuckers in bridge and neck position with an Alnico single coil in the middle. So if I have to guess, and a guess it is, I would say AW4270 (B if black bobbin, Z if zebra bobbin, C if chrome cover). But none of tehse seem to be available through the online store. :(

Hope this helps,

- Jos

Donn had asked about the Climax pickups back in November, 2010 and I posted a reply, which
was a reply Gabe had given to a similar query on the old G&LDP in 2008.

Here's the thread, which is in the G&L General Questions sub-forum of the G&L Knowledgebase:
Climax Pickups and body wood?

I am visiting the G&L Factory and BBE Sound offices on Wednesday and hope to spend some time with
Paul. If I do, I have the Climax pickups on my list of things to discuss with him, so I can update the G&L pickup list.

Stay tuned.

As a side note, there happens to be a Climax Plus for sale on eBay.

Craig I really appreciate you checking this out at G&L with Paul, will be looking forward to anything you can come up with. Yowhatsshakin-------Craig, Thanks men for the info. Yowhatsshakin thanks for the model # as it is probably the AW4270. I would really like to get this ClimaxPlus back to stock,as it is beautiful and I love the sound of the stock pickup as I have one in a 1992 Green metal flake Climax (Hss). Thanks Donn
