72 thinline mod for mfd's

Post by arablue »

i have a 72 thinline that i'd like to mod for mfd 'soapbar' style pickups. the guitar currently has routes for regular sized humbuckers, not the 70's fender type. i have two questions:
1. will the angled bridge pickup fit in the hole as-is, or do i need to route out more?
2. since the holes are deep, can i attach the pickups to the guard instead of the body wood?
thanks in advance for your help
