The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Dual Fulcrum Block material

Post by Rocktacular96 »

Hey guys,

Do the current Dual Fulcrum bridges available at the G&L store have steel blocks? I can't find any mention of it. My 1993 USA Legacy had a Zinc block, and I love the difference it made when I replaced it for a Callaham steel block. My 2006 (or thereabouts) USA Legacy Deluxe has a steel block, as it is magnetic. But, I can't find any info on what they are now.

I have a 2010 Legacy Tribute, and I want to replace the zinc block with a steel one. Callaham has stopped offering replacement blocks for G&Ls, and there's still no word on when the new G&L DFS trem will be available for purchase separately. I wouldn't mind buying a new DFV at the G&L store if I knew the block is steel.

Otherwise, does anyone know of where to get replacement steel or titanium blocks for G&Ls?
What about steel block saddles like on Fender USA Deluxes? I hate bent saddles, and the only steel block saddles I could find have offset screws.
I really wish I could just order a DFS right now.

Thanks guys

Detemple makes Titanium blocks, but the price is a little steep. Resonari used to make brass blocks, but they have stopped the production of them. Callaham sold Steel blocks at a time, but they've stopped producing them as well.

I really wish I could order a DFS Vibrato too. I wonder if G&L is ever going to sell them on their site. I don't know why they're keeping it such a secret.

Have either of you asked your dealer if he can get you a DFS in? Might work.

I asked a couple dealers, and they said that they don't sell them. I emailed G&L, and was told that they are not available for sale separately at this time.

I did some digging, and found that the current DF Vibrato most likely has a brass block. They used zinc for a while in the 90s, then switched to steel for a short time. By 2006 they were outsourced to Asia, changed to metric, and blocks changed to brass.

I think I'll just buy a current complete DFV from the G&L store to replace the one on my Legacy Tribute, while I'm waiting on the DFS. The saddles and the block on the tributes are zinc.

I did find steel block saddles that should fit on G&Ls, in case anyone is interested. They are sold at GFS.

I have some updated information, in case anyone is interested.
I ordered a new Dual Fulcrum from the G&L store. I had a chance to take a closer look at it today right next to the Dual Fulcrum that came on my Legacy Tribute. It turns out that they are the same exact bridge. Unless I am missing something. They are identical. The trem block on both of them is brass. I tried scraping away some of the chrome plating to see what the material was, but the chrome plating is really thick and hard. I had to use a drill. When I saw some yellow, I knew both were made of brass. The only difference is the saddles. They look identical, except small markings on the underside of the tribute saddles. I sicked the drill on them too, and found that the regular Dual Fulcrum from the G&L store (and what comes on USA models) comes with saddles that are also chrome plated brass. The tribute saddles are not brass. Pretty sure they are zinc.

So the Dual Fulcrum bridges that are on the newer Indonesian Legacy Tributes, are the same exact bridge as on the USA models except for the zinc saddles, instead of plated brass.

Hope this helps
