Two blues sisters
Recently I had the time to take some better pictures of my ASAT classic custom and my Legacy,
red and vintage white are nearly impossible to render faithfully, with my competence IMO !
anyway, hope you enjoy them, tell me what you think.
A nice week-end to all of you

Re: Two blues sisters
I have noticed that a lot of people here seem to have realized how much better instrument photographs are when taken outdoors. I suspect that in addition to the superior natural light, the auto focus loves all of the details it can grab from leaves, tree trunk bark and grass so that the relatively simple guitar form reaps the benefit of a finely focused lens.
This is not to say you have failed with your photography. It is quite the opposite. Under the circumstances you have produced beautiful pictures of two beautiful instruments.

Yeah Jamie, thank you !
@ Michael : I know it's way better to take pictures outside. I often take pictures the old way (35mm black and white, and medium format) and process my films. In that case, I took those indoor because I live in the 3rd floor and it was really tough to do things differently ...

Nice pair - congratulations
cheers, Robbie
Cool - I had a Mamiya Medium Format camera back in the 70s that was given to my father by a photographer friend (well, one of his band mates who actually sold it to us for a token price). I had a lot of fun with it but moved on to video during the 80's. Never did my own developing though. Digital has taken all the fun (and creativity) out of photography.supereiv wrote: I often take pictures the old way (35mm black and white, and medium format) and process my films.

Re: Two blues sisters
How do you like the sound of the neck pickup on the ASAT classic custom?

Re: Two blues sisters
Well , the neck pickup continues to amaze me. It is really really fat, and... Subtle at the same time. It seems that no matter what style you throw at it, it shines ! I'm serious, recently I've been working a lot on my overdrived tone, and that pickup is really fine, a lot of power AND a lot of control, the more I play this guitar, the more I'm satisfied with it.
It is nearly impossible to make this instrument sound bad, try it ! The best overdrive tone that goes with it is the amp's itself, IMHO.

Great pics Xavier. I was wondering, are you \still content with your modified pickguard on your Classic Custom such that the neck pup high adjustment screws were accessible again? ever found a need to readjust the height?

Re: Two blues sisters
Yes, a little bit of history, at the beginning I found that the pickups, especially the neck pickup, were lacking of something. When playing, sound was good, but a certain quality of bass was not there. I told myself : "I must be mad " but A/B test with my legacy, showed that 2 decades of experience bring a sort of instinct of how a guitar must react, in the end I trusted my ears, and trying to raise the pickups led me to raise the screws, and that was better, but not fine. The guitar had to go to the luthier for a string gauge change ( I do not want to setup guitars myself, I'm too afraid) so the pickguard cut was done at the same time, and as with any other guitar, the luthier set it up including pickup height. And tadaaaaaaam !!! That was the sound I was expecting ( and another fine example of trust-what-your-ears-say-instead-of-your-mind-you-bum !).
Now to answer your question more precisely : the guitar arrived in january of this year, and I played mainly jazz until this summer, so the luthier's pickup height was perfect (and I discover the MFD's requirement for at least a decent amp if you wanna play clean).
Recently, I've been working to enter a 70's blues-rock band that gigs maybe 2 or 4 times a month, so I worked on my overdrived sound seriously for the first time since I had the ASAT. The question of lowering the height of that pickups went through my mind, but soon I realized that I was just too heavy on the gain knob, and now I'm pretty done. I tested my setup with playing a whole song of Gov't Mule with the album ( that was "bad man walking" if you're curious, album "deja voodoo"), well, I picked it up by ear actually, and played along, trying to approach a sound that I found suitable, knowing that Warren Haynes is mainly a lespaul guy I purposely didn't try to emulate his sound.
What surprises me is how that curious, tweaked-telecaster's descendant can not only do the job, but can do it with great authority !
I'm definitely amazed. Now I have to try it onstage, but I'm confident about that...

I had a Kawa 6 Medium format back in the seventies & enjoyed it immensely; but have moved to the digital format because it allows me to be more creative:

Granted, you still need to use a camera with a good lens ..

Re: Two blues sisters
Well lefty... You have very impressive photographic skills !!!
Look like professional shots, honestly.
I give you a link to some pictures I've done (before I became a proud dad of Jeanne my little girl ) they're a little bit old somehow
http://www.1picture.net/pictures.aspx?m ... aid=xavier
Be kind with me as I haven't half of the shadow of your talent. By the way, it's a gallery of silver B&W only, 35 mm w/olympus OM4 and medium format w/pentax 645, no cropping, all processed by hand the old way.
Cheers, Xavier

Hi Xavier,
Thanks! Your B&W photos are great - Taking good B&W photos is harder to accomplish than taking color photos. I have no experience in B&W photgraphy or processing.
