I've got to ask, why. Why is it shaped like an inverted cup? Why is the hole so deep that when the tip is fully seated it won't go into positions 1 or 5?
Why not use something that's not so odd? The shape I can live with but the tip bottoming on the screws when it's fully seated on the switch is a bit bothersome.
Since this is my first S-500, I've never encountered it before. Anyone have some tips on these tips?

Replace it with a Strat tip it is. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Yours must have been pushed in too far or split so that it went too far down. G&L uses "Strat" tips on the Lagacies. A $0.50 replacement part... I've had no problems w/ mine:
