I'm sure I've seen a reference to G&L's doing an Orange Metalflake (not confused with "Tangerine metallic"); but perhaps this was misinformation?
I would very seriously love it for upcoming custom build if it's real!
Anybody know??
Many thanks,
Nick

One fun step beyond Gretsch, beyond goldtop Les Paul, yummy surely.

Re: ORANGE metalflake - real or imaginary?
It does exist and is listed as an optional finish for the USA Will Ray Signature model.NickHorne wrote:I'm sure I've seen a reference to G&L's doing an Orange Metalflake (not confused with "Tangerine metallic"); but perhaps this was misinformation?

I hope to find out soon, if this finish is being offered on other models as well.
Stay tuned.

Re: ORANGE metalflake - real or imaginary?
Thanks, Craig, very much!
I have a Will Ray (silver one) which is a lifetime keeper, and I've had the pleasure of some e-correspondence with WR about G&L's and benders since.
I'm now working up the spec of a wider-necked stablemate which will be equally great, and Orange metalflake is top of the list by a very long mile. It might possibly be another WR, but more likely a Special with 1 3/4 neck in quartersawn. Currently all under discussion with my dealer and the distrib here in UK.
I await your reply in eager hope! The Orange would be just totally fabulous...
Thanks again,
Best wishes - Nick

Re: ORANGE metalflake - real or imaginary?
Yes, that does!
I guess my custom order idea is kind of a concept for a "WR Special" model? A Special with a bender on, bridge factory-drilled to work really nicely with the bender right away, like the WR Signature Z3 does (love it).
Mirror guard.
And, for me, a 1 3/4 nut for my big 60-year-old paws and open-position fingerstyle habit.
And Orange Metalflake (oh please....), with creme pups.
And when I get her home, a Bill Keith tuner for top E down to D.
And then literally thousands of hours of really good music time, into the older years of these fingers!
Yes, yummy.
And honest and real, not ignorance / innocence - exploiting like some other "custom" producers.

Re: ORANGE metalflake - real or imaginary?
It isn't real yet, Nick has to have it made real.
The idea is quite intriguing though.
