Are neck heels and pockets the same dimensions as always? Or have they changed (even a little, perhaps due to metrication) since CNC?
I am considering ordering a new axe with a wider nut dimension than mine, and an ash body instead of alder. I intend to keep one guitar out of the two, but I'll want to try swapping the necks over, e.g. if I prefer the new neck on my old body, then I'll keep that and sell the other.
But if there's the possibility of a mismatch, I'll just have lost a lot of money for nothing. Also, whatever combination I sell must make a good guitar, as I'm not into selling anything substandard ever. So the neck switch will have to be sure to work well both ways.
My "old" Z3 is pre-CNC. It's absolutely stonking great except for the narrow neck.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can shed on this question.

Heya,
I know there is a diff btw 3-bolt & 4-bolt neck widths but not sure bout CNC pre/post. Best thing to do is measure yours with calipers and then call G&L and tell them your concerns. They're a friendly bunch and more than likely they can help you out.
I do know first hand that some of specs of the hardware - saddle lock bridge & saddles- - have changed/drifted over the years but more so pre to post Leo era.
Hope this helps...
Cheers,
Kf

Hi Nick,
Perhaps Craig can assist with the details, but the answer is..... It depends.
When G&L first started, the heel/pocket were the same size/width as the Fender brand stuff. At some point, pre-CNC, G&L went to a slightly wider heel on their necks, so that they were no longer interchangeable. So part of the answer may depend on how "pre-CNC" your neck is.
Of course, the other issue is that pre-CNC stuff has greater variability in its measurements, so that may play a role also.
Dont'cha love it.

My uneasy hunch confirmed! But good clues - thanks!
