Am curious to know if there are other G&Ls out there with this body finish. Don't have neck and body dates yet, but the build sheet says she was made 5/24/2011.

There are a couple other ones that G&L built last year. See this post: Red, white, and blue G&L Tele for Buck Owens.
Also see the Gallery for this: ASAT Classic with custom tri-color Flake finish.
Hope this helps.
When you get a change, please add yours to our G&L Registry.
BTW, I like how they did the headstock to match the body.
Thanks,

Excellent, thanks!
Added to the registry. Thanks for adding the new finish for me!
Yeah, I think the headstock is awesome. it looks like on those other guitars the lines are straight across, whereas on mine the lines converge somewhere above the headstock.

Oh no! I just did the G&L setup thing where you tune the guitar up and then loosen the neck bolts a quarter turn and then retighten. But one of the bolts won't retighten. It just turns. It was tight when I untightened it, but never seemed to catch on anything when I tried to retighten?
Maybe I can just fill the hole with maple sawdust and superglue, let it dry and redrill the hole? I guess I should take the neck off first and look and see what's actually going on.

STOP. Take the guitar to your nearest reputable guitar tech or luthier. Please do not fill with saw dust, glue or anything else. It's possible you didn't do much damage if at all but don't take chances. If it does need to be fixed then only an experienced tech should work on it. not sure where you're located but there are good techs to be found most places. But please do not attempt a home fix on this. Just my 2c's.

I appreciate your concern. I was taught the sawdust and superglue method by a well-known luthier who studied under Jimmy D'Aquisto and was on the masthead at Vintage Guitar Magazine last time I looked. I used to live above his shop. I am confident in my ability to effect the repair if it's the appropriate fix in this case.
I guess I should ask him, huh? I'll do that.

my apologies for casting any doubt on your abilities as i had no idea. in any event i typically err on the side of caution with this type of stuff and especially when you have such a unique guitar. as mentioned, hopefully things are not that bad and/or easily fixed. nice looking guitar. definitely a prized possesion.

No worries It's good advice. Better safe than sorry.
Happy news: I put the neck of my Legacy on the Freedom of Speechocaster and it works great. Seems to be louder acoustically and feels more resonant now. Hopefully I can just ship the neck back to G&L and let them take care of it. I'll give them a call on Monday.

Hmm, if the one of neck screw holes in the body is stripped, shipping the neck back to the factory makes no sense to me. You said you put your Legacy neck on this guitar and it worked better, did you fixed the stripped neck screw hole in the body?fuzz wrote:No worries It's good advice. Better safe than sorry.

What are you expecting the factory to fix on the original neck? What am I missing???

Re: ASAT Classic US Flag Flake -- The Freedom of Speechocaster
It is the screw hole in the original neck itself that is stripped. That's why the Legacy neck works. I decided against repairing it myself as it seems the most logical reason this would happen on a brand new guitar is a defect in the wood. If it's the case that the factory would just do the same repair and not worry about a possible defect in the wood, well, I suppose I may as well just do it myself.Craig wrote:Hmm, if the one of neck screw holes in the body is stripped, shipping the neck back to the factory makes no sense to me. Doh, I guess by my dumb response I must have been missing my brain function.Craig wrote:Hmm, if the one of neck screw holes in the body is stripped, shipping the neck back to the factory makes no sense to me. Note to self: do not post after a night out on the town (with much wine consumed).

This instrument is back en route to me from G&L with a brand-new neck and is for sale in as-new condition if anyone is interested.
