Hello from Newfoundland! (Canada)

Post by jammers5 »

Just picked up my first G&L - an ASAT Classic Rustic (pic over on the G&L Porn section.) Was going to buy a Tele 52 AVRI but they are back ordered till at least July. I have my eye on this G&L for about a month and finally decided to get my money back on the Tele and plank it down on this beauty!

Here are my initial thoughts:

- Build quality is superb. The action is too low for me (personal preference) but I am wow-ed by the fact they could string it so low without any buzzing.
- Very comfortable neck. Not sticky at all, a worry I had with getting the AVRI, have heard some complaints on the tele forums that the neck was sticky on the AVRI.
- The pickups sound warmer, quieter but more aggressive than the Tele - yet still lots of Twang. Neck pickup is a thing of beauty nice and warm and not muddy at all. I have read in here that some ppl have changed out the pickups, I can't figure out why they sound good to me so far.

My only two "issues" with this guitar are:
-would have liked vintage-style tuners
-the Classic Rustics should come in a more vintage tweed-style case

Not "deal killers" by any stretch but on the "would have been nice" list.

Welcome and congrats! I'm also in love with tweed cases for esthetic reasons knowing full well they don't hold up as well as a tolex case if you schlep them around all the time (grime etc.) And that is a fine looking guitar! Was there any reason for you to go with the nitro version of the Classic instead of the standard poly? Or was nitro the thing you were after given you were looking at a nitro finished Tele 52 AVRI too?

It was just by coincidence I got a nitro, it was the only US built G&L they had. Although I do prefer nitro over poly.....

Greetings! good to see a newfie on the board, my Father was born in Torbay and I grew up listening about the beautiful landscape up there. I bet that ASAT classic rustics finish will wear wonderfully.

Welcome to the board.

You might be the first person I have ever run into who wants vintage tuners on something. I won't buy anything with POS Klusons or the like on it.
