FYI Found A Good Case For G&Ls

Got one of these off Craigslist: SKB SKB-66 Deluxe Universal Electric Guitar Case

http://www.guitarcenter.com/SKB-SKB-66- ... D=60348200

It fits my '88 ASAT perfectly, and snug. The SC1 is at the limit in length but also fit's well and is snug, so for both there's no need to force anything and no slop. I got it for $60 brand new and it's worth that. It's pretty dinky for $130, it's a faux Pelican case, looks butch but it's just a typical SKB cheap Chinese case. It's not an airline or tour case so don't be fooled but good as any other hard tolex case otherwise. Nice and light. Doesn't gas out toxic stench like other SKB cases I've encountered.

G&Ls are tough to house so I thought I'd pass this info on.

If that G&L is anything like mine you're gonna have a blast. Those pickups kill. BTW I can highly recommend 100% pure nickel strings on it. I tried some out of boredom and was dubious but they sound really fine on both the SC1 and ASAT. If they feel too soft at first wait it out to get used to them, it worth it for the sound. I used the Fender strings cause that was what the store had. Enjoy the new old ASAT.

I've never liked the original standard case provided with new G&L's. At least in 2005 when I bought mine. I can't get my head around the fact there is no top cover on the storage area. All and all the guitar sits tight but, I would prefer a storage area top.
Cheers,
Ken

The case and guitar have arrived. The case fits the instrument very nicely, and didn't have the noxious "new case" smell. I will try to carve out some time to do some case shuffling and post a report on how it fits my other Leo-era instruments.

The ASAT is incredible. I'm pretty sure the body is maple, judging by the wood exposed by a couple of dings. The board is maple, and the finish is candy apple red (I think - my color vision isn't that good). I've been playing her every night for an hour or two, and the feel and action are perfect for me. I'm probably going change up to a set of 10s, so I'll definitely try the pure nickel. Thanks for the tip!
