NGD! ASAT Special Deluxe

Post by desertrat07 »

I just got this one in - my 4th G&L. I guess that means I've officially got a problem! First thing I noticed is that it is a little lighter than my maple-bodied ASAT Special. Sound wise, the Special is a little more brash with more pronounced highs and lows. The Special Deluxe is extremely well-balanced with slightly more mid-range. Both are incredible pro-level instruments, and I feel lucky to have them.

Bill,

What are your thoughts on the sound of the Special Deluxe vs. the Special? I wasn't sure I needed both, but they really are different guitars despite the similarities.

Hi,

Not sure I can give an opinion there. I only have the Special Deluxe. I always figured they would sound the same, having the same MFD pickups, so was surprised to read your post.

Congrats! good to hear about the tonal differences as I ordered a special deluxe because I was looking for a more balanced middy sound, of course mine lacks the maple top so it should have even less bite.

Stunning beauty and nice picture! Have fun with it. And welcome to the club. Your next post is supposed to start with: "Hi, my name is desertrat07 and I have G&L G.A.S ..." ;)

Wow, what a sweet looking special  .... and i think there are quite a few of us in the 4+ club. No one has seemed to offer us any help! I totally understand the deluxe sounding quite a bit different - My special and special semi-hollow have quite different tonally qualities despite being almost the same guitar.
Enjoy

Hi Scott,

Interesting to hear that the semi-hollow can have such a difference in tone. I'm considering the purchase of a Bluesboy, but can't decide whether to go semi-hollow or solid body. And, if I go for the semi-hollow, then the decision is 'F' hole or no 'F' hole. Anyone here got any views on this? Thanks.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. As good as this guitar looks, it sounds even better. Amazing really - I've definitely found the guitar for me. Until I find another one, or two, or three . . . 8-)
