Need help id'ing neck on my Z-3

Post by smileradio »

Really good question. I would actually like your thoughts on this (you as in "forum"), because maybe someone knows. I have a G&L ASAT Z-3 and I LOVE the neck. However, I totally forgot what size the neck is. If I take off the neck, will there be a number to let me know which neck is on it? Along with a Radius Size? Along with the Nut size? Or How should I get these so that when I get another G&L I can be sure I get the same neck specifications?

Thanks so much!

See the G&L Guitar Options page.

First measure the nut width, if it's 1 11/16" then the neck is a #3 or
if it's 1 3/4" then the neck is a #4.

If it's 1 5/8" then you need to do more measuring:

Check the radius of the fretboard using a radius gauge.

A 12" radius will narrow it down to: 1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d
A 7.5" radius will narrow it down to: 2, 2a, 2b

Use calipers to measure the depth of neck at the 1st and 12th frets.
Look at the Neck Profiles chart found on the Options page mentioned above
and match the one closest to your neck's 1st and 12 fret measurements.

Hope this helps.
