NGD - USA G&L Invader!!

Post by Scott Granger »

Hi guys! This is my first post, and it's about my first G&L. I got a line on a near mint one for $799 with the G&L Tolex Case. Here are some pics:

Well, there she is. This is also my first Floyd-equipped guitar, so that will take some time to getting used to. My current collection includes this, a mint '88 Carvin V-220, an '81 Ibanez Blazer, and an ESP LTD M-15 String-Thru.

I'd appreciate any information you can chime in with regarding the Invader. This one has has a HipShot Tremsetter installed. There is one very small finish dimple on this one, but many folks are telling me this was a fantastic price for the return I'll likely get.

Is that the one Chris had on his site? Although I'm not an "Invader-type" player I thought it quite the looker. In any event that's a nice guitar and you gotta love the wide-flame (or is it wide quilt) top and blue burst finish!

Congrats Scott on a fine guitar. She is quite the looker with a beautiful top. Let us know how you like the Floyd Rose trem and how she plays in general.

You got is for a great price for sure! Enjoy!

Beautiful guitar, indeed!
BTW, the Figured Maple Top (in this case a Premium Quilted Maple Top) is an added upcharge option, too.

I think you got it for a very reasonable price.

When you get a change, please add it to our G&L Registry.

Congratulations!

Also, would this have been a standard Invader, or an Invader Plus? I can't find where the Duncan TB-4 Bridge Humbucker would have been stock either. It's certainly a keeper. There is some minor fret buzz on the lower strings, but the action is pretty low and comfortable, and I don't think any of it comes through an amp.

I'll definitely add it to the registry.

Yes, I believe it is the factory installed Floyd Rose bridge system.
See the spec page on G&L's main website.

Hope this helps.

Oh, sorry -- I had meant original in the sense of an OFR and not whether a FR came with this particular model. I had never heard of a USA Floyd, and knew that originals were from Germany, and so was wondering whether this was a licensed FR. Of course, it works great regardless. Again though, I am new to both G&Ls and Floyds.

Thanks for your assistance!

Scott, firstly that is a wonderful looker, invaders are pretty sweet, wouldn't mind one myself.

I would think that is an OFR, my black OFR is branded the same way, in the same spot. Most licensed have some slight differences and I see none. IIRC on the underside of the base plate it may be stamped with schaller/germany.

Hi,

When I turn the guitar upside-down and dive the trem just a hair, there look to be 2 U.S. Patents, but nothing is said about Schaller, Germany, etc. Of course, I may not be viewing the base plate? I wonder whether the G&L folks would know for sure on these. Again, the FR lettering on the face of the trem says nothing about licensed.

Thanks,
Scott

My Sustain block said stuff about USA patents also, as I said, that looks like an OFR.

After reading this thread over, I see where the problem is.

When you do a search on the internet over the "Floyd Rose" system :searching: , you will find threads where people will say the ones not made in Germany suck ass. In other words, if it is licensed by Floyd Rose, it is a P.O.S.
I'm not saying this, I 'm just a messenger.

To make matters worse. Floyd Rose came up with a stupid name called "THE FLOYD ROSE ORIGINAL". :BadIdea: Anytime a guitar manufacturer uses a licensed Floyd Rose on their guitar, they too will use the word "Original Floyd Rose".
Do a ebay search for G&L invader and all info about the items will say "it has the original floyd rose". Not to be confused with the name and product "THE FLOYD ROSE ORIGINAL".
G&L uses "USA made" FR.

Says that on their website, but I doubt the veracity of that claim. It looks identical to the OFR on my Carvin.

Looks like someone bought it for $980

Is that what I get for posting it on here? :lolno:
I would have bought it for $750, then again, it is e-bay, I am probably better off not getting it at all.

Maybe the OP didn't like the guitar or bought it to flip? Maybe the Floyd Rose "issue" spooked him? In any event after mixing in what he paid for the guitar from Chris (i think it was $799 plus shipping) and figuring in the Ebay and PP fees he probably broke even. Nice looking Invader.

You should be grateful! After all, the headstock isn't of the same color as the body! That's a real deal breaker, dude! ;)

Does anyone know if the Invader Plus came with a Floyd that says "Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents" stamped on the top?
